New tires

I have a 86 ZL900 Eliminator and my tires are shot. Now I need help from all you long time eliminator riders to help me decide which brand and size to choose that best fits the bikes needs. This forum has been a big help, thanks to all.
 
I am looking for new tires too. Problem I am having is I have an el250, and it has a 100/90 - 17 on the front. This doesn't seem to be a very common tire at all. Is there a size that is more common and also compatible?
 
I wanted to add that the Bike shop I use said to use Dunlop 404 or Bridgestone S11.
 
I posted this question a couple of weeks ago. For the 900, there is still a few models for the 160/80-15 rear but you have a few more options if you go to either a 150 or 170 tire but it will change to overall height. I just mounted a Metzeler 880 in the 170 size and like the way if fills the fender better than the old 150. A few users have said good things about the Venoms, Bridgestone and Dunlops. Really depends on your riding style. As for the 250 Eli front tire, you could go with a 110/80-17 tire, it will just be a hair shorter.
 
My current rear is the Dunlop D404 and I like it, though it does appear to be copping a hiding in the centre (explains why it sticks I suppose). Bridgestone’s Exedra G702 (160/80-15) was the OEM tyre for the 2001-2004 model Honda VT750DC Shadow Spirit 750 and I’ll probably try that next:

I doubt that you could find a Spitfire S11 in KHI’s recommended 160/80-15 profile. I’ve found an S11 140/90-15 (mine originally had this one fitted) and a 150/90-15 but they are both narrower than the stock tyre. The 140 has a lower height than standard and the 150 is taller (more than the 140 is short). But if you do find one in the 160/80-15, let us all know hey…
 
Avon Venom X, 170 on the rear, standard size on the front. But I don't scrap my knees on the ground either rounding corners, could with these tires.
 
Well I got the Bridgestones Spitfire s11 tires front and rear. They look mean and handle very well also.
 
probably a stupid question butanybody ever heard about white side tires for a zl900?
i think that would look GOOD woudl'nt it?
 
Well the rego runs out on Wednesday and I'm up for a new rear. Turns out the D404 only lasted 1yr and 12,395kms (7,700mls). The centre is as smooth as racing slick so I'll try something else this time.

Has anyone tried the IRC WF-920 WILDFLARE (170/80-15 M/C 77H) which is recommended for a 4" rim? If so, how's the grip and what is the wear factor like?

By the way xtian, in case you haven't seen them yet, the Bridgestone Spitfire 11R has raised white lettering on the sidewall. I realise they're not white walls but they look great all the same.
 
rocket, i had the irc wildflare on the back for about one summer!! (zl1k) i liked the way it handled and hooked up BUT absolutely no mileage. went to the avon,couldnt be happier.
 
Thanks for that. I was looking for a little more mileage than the D404's 12,000 kms. In any case the WildFlare's proving to be a little difficult to source so me thinks me might try the Bridgestone G702 Exedra.
 
I spose its worth what someone is willing to pay? One mans trash is exactly what another guy has been searchin for...

I had a look through all the stuff in the eBay listing, i recognise everything except for the little black plastic bit in the top right corner of the pic... is that the airbox access door where you slot in the airfilter? The original eli owners manual is worth a few bob alright, the rest is not.
