Eliminator Production numbers

Keep your fingers crossed...

that everything stays running ok over the next week or so. I will be on vacation up in Mass for about a week or so with no computer connections. Just in case anything goes haywire around here, don't fret, I will be coming back to fix'er up.

I have a 1985 Red Eliminator ZL900.
I have also heard these are the rarest.
Does anyone have a number breakdown on the 85-86 red vs black production.
 
I had heard one time that they are like 50-50 red vs black in production but sales the black wins.

now if ya happen across a blue white black 85 GPZ thats a whole new animal
 
Several of us Eli nuts have attempted to get production numbers! I talked to Kawasaki, they could not divulge that info. I talked to the Motorcycle import commission, they could not divulge that information.
Everyone on this site would bow on their knee's to anyone who could get actual production and import numbers! So, if you want to be a hero, see what you can come up with! :wav:
 
The rarest is a mid-year bike,you can tell the diff as it has
a small decal just behind the fuel door,looks kinda like wings.

nope ! the red zl900 was made in both 85, & 86, though the black was a more popular color at the time ! so, yes ! there are probobly fewer red one's still existing ! just got the info. from a kawasaki dealership owner, who sponsored my racing some years back !!! he said that they did offer red for both years, but again, fewer red one's were sold ! OHHH I FORGOT !! he also told me that the production numbers started to drop off the 86 model year on both, because of the insurance black list issued in late 1985 for all high performace motorcycles. vmax, eliminator, ninja, fz, fj, gsxr, are just a few that were on that list for the united states.

he said, that is why the zl 1000 does not say, eliminator on it. manufacterers tried using this as a way around the bikes being on black list . CHRIS
 
WELCOME PATHER ! this has been a debate for a while now, so i thought i would contact an old friend & see if he could help us all in this matter ! CHRIS
 
I forgot about the Eliminator being on the black list until now. I had an '86 that I insured with State Farm and Nationwide wanted my business and said they they would cover my cars and house but wouldn't touch the bike. So you can guess what I told them to do.
