Stall.

I have a 85 900 that after riding for awhile will stall when you pull in the clutch. I've turned the idle up to about 1200-1300 and that seems to fix the situation for now. The bike is all original except for the new Avon Venom X tires put on this spring. Should I be looking at a new set of wires and coils over the winter?
 
Could be the Clutch Lockout Switch, Under the Clutch Mastercylinder, Id check it for Corosion, also could have some Moisture in there, Later Rocky :twisted:
 
Thanks, I'll check that out but now I have a new problem. It now acts like its running a half power. At first I thought it was bad gas but I drained it an replaced but no help. Once in awhile it will kick like its back to full power but most of the time its running a half. Its so bad I can pull a spark wire off start the bike and it runs the same. I pulled the spark plugs and check them, drain the fuel from the bottom of the carbs, still the same. Any suggestions? Prime riding season in Ohio and my baby is stuck in the garage.

Lack of demand I think. I'm fairly sure that they were only fitted to the Vmax and the Eliminator.

Must go and have a look at what is on the back of mine. Pretty sure it wasn't a Dunlop though. I seem to remember they were crap anyway :pottytrain2:

That sucks! I was just getting ready to order a 404 to match the front on mine. Bastards. Moab, can't you use some of your superpowers on them?

I ordered Wild Flare tires for mine fron Dennis Kirk, the front is big, but I will post up pics when I get it on, the rear is a lil bigger than stock, but these tires are cool with the flame tread pattern.

I use Bridgestone Spitfires they are offered in stock size but on the back of mine I run the 170 instead of the 160. I find those tires really good they last pretty good and aint all that expensive.

Although Dunlop discontinued the 15" tires there are still a lot of them out there to be had. I agree, they are crap, I will check out the Wild Flare tires, seems interesting?? I keep hearing positive comments on the Avon Venom's too!
 
well we are not limited to a single brand are we?..... we need to let these tire people know we need tires!.....lol....... oops I felt a rant starting. but I have a 180/90 on mine been told by one of the local asshat stealeships that its a common size
 
I got the Venom Xs on my 900. They grip the road well, but then again, I'm not out scraping my knees on the ground around corners. My rides are more like, pull up to a bike night, have people ask "Is that the original 900 Eliminator?" then start a conversation, have a beer then go back home until the next bike night.
 
Avons are really awsome tires as well I hear. If you go with the Metzlers ME880 you can up size the 15 tire to a 200 width lots of choices and real good tires as well.

I have the ME880's now. Nice tires. I'm looking for the stock size and preferably dunlops. I'll just have to see whats readily available when the time comes.
 
Hey guys, I checked out the wild flares made by IRC, they do look very cool! Before you pay Dennis Kirk's prices you need to check out donelsoncycles.com prices for tires are 30-35% lower than anyone else that I have seen. That is true for many neme brands also, they have retail stores in MS and just do the mail order for easy money! Check em out....Sorry zl900_moab that I didnt get you that info before you ordered!!!Coulda saved you $60 on the pair!!
 
Thanx alot, wuputt......I got raked over the coals, but Dennis Kirk has free shipping, and due to the fact that they are in Minnesota with me, I can order the stuuf at 6pm and it hits my doorstep the next day, so it's cool, I'll pay a little more for service like that, that being said, if you do NOT live in lovely, snowy Minnesota, order from wherever, if you can save some bucks, do it, but I only spent $160.00 total on the front AND rear tires, shipping included.

I hear ya bro! I have been to DK's store a couple times! It was always a quick ride up then take the river road back south through Redwing. I miss that ride! Of course I was cruising on my Voyager in those days!

I am curious how much wider those Wild Flares are than the crap Dunlops I have mounted. Let us know when you get em on!
 
Next question is do you put the tires on yourself or do you take it to a stealership? I paid $135 to have the Venom X's installed on my bike (an balanced?)
 
I have always mounted my own tires on my bikes. When I was a kid I could only afford the tires so I learned early how to not scratch em up! I have never had one of em balanced and have probably put on 300,000 miles plus.(yes I am an old fart!) If I bought a used bike with weights on the rims I have removed them. I can't remember owning a bike that I havent run up to 120+mph. Never felt any problems from not balancing them!
