hey all, does anyone have a reason not to put an engine from an 85 zx600 on my zl600 i found one for a sort of deal on ebay the bike is wrecked but he says the engine is good. they both have the a1 behind their name and the parst diagram looks the same. if anyone knows off hand weither or not i can remove the sproket off the zx and bolt up my yolk that would be a great tip as well. thanks.

I would imagine as long as the head on the zx is not set up for down draft carbs and the exhaust spacing doesn't interfere with the frame down tubes, you should probably be OK, but not 100% sure.

Hey Mike,
Gosupes would appear to be right about the downdraught cabs on the ZX, but you could put the ZX cams into your ZL cylinder head. That should mean you can use your carbs - which will clear the frame.
Not sure about the exhausts - but you may find that they won't be a problem.

if i have to use my head then the exhaust will be the same.

is there a difference in the carbs from the zx to the zl or should i just use which ever is cleaner.

If the ZX has downdraught (or semi-downdraught) carbs, then you would be better using your ZL ones.
If you use your cylinder head, that will not affect the exhausts - they will clear the frame tubes as per usual.
Mike - i am not sure what you mean about taking the sprocket of the ZX and bolting up your yolk ?

i don't know what the technical term for it is. but the part that surrounds the shift mechinism. the drive shaft is routed to it and it connects to the back bottom corner of the crankcase/trans on the left side. i had thought that that is where the chain sproket was connected to the engine. hope were on the same page now. thanks

11008/a for both (however the zx has two options both look the same) on the kaw. site the pic. shows the same head for both the zx and the zl. plus i won the auction so well see how it works.
