Fork Seals/U Tube

COOL ! thanks for posting this kawtipper ! CHRIS :cool10:

There is a 3 part vid on there. great video except he never showed putting the spring back in that I could see. That fork is a lot more complicated than the ones we have.

Get that video back up! I need to do mine!

Ours are pretty easy to do.It will take you about 30 min on the first one and about 10 min on the other.
Only 2 tricky things.Removing the allen bolt on the bottom(sometimes),and removing the retainer cap on the top.
Should be a thread on here somewhere with a how to.

Is there a write up somewhere on here for it? Is it the same as the GPZ900?

Just looked on youtube under FORK SEALS and there are a number of good demos - but none appear to be the same type of top fork as our Eliminators!

Anyway - I have just removed the top plug with the fork off the bike!
I had already got the tube off to clean up and polish the leg - so thought about doing the seals while I was there - so to speak.
I had a bottom triple tree in the garage - not sure what it was from - but not quite the same diameter as my ZL1k - so out with the half round metal file.
After much filing and attempted fitting, I got the said triple to a size that would go over my tube nicely and could be tightened up onto it. In this case by a large Allen bolt.
I held the triple in a bech vice and got a socket that fitted over the air valve with some clearance, and then used a two legged puller to press the cap down to expose the retaining ring - which was then removed.
A tip here is to make sure you have quite a bit of extra play on the puller - so that you can allow the fork spring to extend and decompress as you back the puller off.
Saves getting a smack in the face from the spring!
If anyone wants photos - I will go back out into the garage and do the deed!
