need advice on a new bike i want to purchase plz

hi
thanks for looking in and any advice you give me.
i am after buying a kawasaki 1985 ZL 900 eliminator and need some info on the bike.
is it a good bike
is there any problems i should know about
anything really that could help me decide
at the moment i have a 1979 gsx 750et and im looking for a cruiser and have come across this machine ZL 900
i like the look and style but need to know the in and outs of the bike
i am 5.10 and 17-stone in weight, it looks big enough to acomadate me on the pic i have what do you think am i to big that it would be uncomfitable to ride.

Hey Tazz, Well it Depends on what kind of Life its Had 8O , Good or ROUGH???If its been Well Maintained you should have No Problems. Couple of small Things to look For
Leaking Waterpump and a Weak Camchain Adjuster
The Bike has a Wicked Low and Mid Powerband, The Small Tank is its only Shortfall[ 70 Miles] You could go with a Bigger tank, GPZ Tanks can be Moded to Fit. Dont know what 17 Stone ammounts to in LBS?????

Don't forget to post up your location in the UK and unless I miss my guess, one of our lads would probably be happy to meet you to check the bike over with you. We seem to have a fair spread of members throughout the country.

Seventeen stone is about 306 pounds or about 18 pounds to the stone if I remember correctly. Been awhile since I've been to OZ though. :lol:
 
Here's my 2 cents................

20 year old bike...... Who know what might go wrong.

Small gas tank.... Really small that's probably the main thing that I don't like about the bike.

But........

Nice sound, decent power, fun to ride, can still get parts.
 
I'm about to get my fork tubes ground and rechromed so I'm going to completely rebuild the front suspension. Bushes and stuff are all straight from the dealer, you don't really have any other choice but its a bit different when it comes to the seals.

From the dealer they are £16 a pair but I can get them from the net for between £6.50 and £8 a pair.

I fitted some of the cheaper ones to my Katana last year and they were fine so the question is if there is any reason why I should pay the extra to the dealer? Are they better quality? Will they last longer? Anything?
 
If you are rebuilding your forks you may want to check out the springs made by Progressive, from what I understand they are much better than stock. You can lower the front too!
I have not had a problem with aftermarket seals either.
 
Don't know about the seals, but progressive springs help the front a hell of a lot. Putting Hagon progressive springs in was one of the first things I did to my bike, and my confidence in the front has improved a hell of a lot from knowing it won't dive completely if I need to tap the brakes.
 
I can attest to both the seals and Progressive springs.I'm on my second Eliminator 900 and the last one had Progressive Hagons and aftermarket seals. No issues whatsoever. The springs helped big time. Much less dive. I just bought another set for my new toy since I blew a seal this past weekend. (10 pound in the air-assist was to much!!) Anyway, wouldn't think of replacing the seals without swapping to the upgraded springs.
