Hallelujah, and oh boy...

Hi all,

Hallelujah, and oh boy, I have been waiting “so” patiently for this day to come, for what seems like forever. No more arm fatiguing, teeth busting front-end suspension to deal with anymore, I hope! I can hardly wait for the shop to install my new progressive front fork springs, and repair my gushing front fork seal, as well as go over my bike and approve my new state inspection. I recently ordered up the 11.5 inch 440 series progressive rear shocks also, just a tad over $300 for the pair, I will of course install those myself, upon their arrival. Dale walker, of “Holeshot”, informed me that he does not have any front fork braces left for the ZL900’s. I really would like to find one of these front fork braces, as everyone indicates this improves the front end stability, any ideas, or possible selections that are still available for a ZL900 would be much appreciated. I seek a little assistance with sources, ideas, or varied selections, anyone?

I just installed a brace made by Rick Maker. He did a superb job on it. It is made on a CNC with "Eliminator" engraved in a really sweet lettering. Cost to me was just over $100, well worth it! If you are interested he can be contacted at:

Hey Brian, I also have a RMaker Forkbrace, LOOKS a Lot Better than the Superbrace, And Works a Lot Better as its a 2 Piece Kit, Dont overtighten it or it will Bind the Forks, Later Rocky :twisted:
 
Thanks for the input, so then it shall be, the RMaker Fork-brace. I got her out of the shop today, and the good news is, what a difference this repair made, and I am very pleased with the local Kaw-Dealer’s work. They even went over the bike for me, as they certainly knew I would potentially be a new customer, and she was, after all, a brand new purchase, with no service history. The bad news is two-fold, nearly $400 in parts and labor, but hey, they have families to clothe, shelter and feed, besides, good experienced help, i.e., motorcycle specialists, don’t come cheap. The second fold is when they went to install the front progressive springs; they immediately noticed that the 2-inch spacer was not needed, as the front tubes happen to be shorter then stock. Apparently, I am already riding 2-down, and by my dropping her down 2-inches in the rear, simply levels her out. Perhaps after I drop the rear-end down 2-inches, I could make some minor adjusts with the front-end height, dial her in so to speak. Without a service manual, although I am told, “it’s coming”, I become unsure if there is any room for even minor upward adjustments. Can you tell from my ZL photos if the triple can move upward at all, or is it up all the way already?

Hey Brian, Stock the Forks are Flush with the Top of the TREES. You can Drop the Forks But it Increases Rake and Trail. Messed with Mine For 6 Months and with The Progressive Springs and Different Weight Fork Oil Went Back To Stock Fork Height. Also made the Spacers 1.75" Works For Me BUT Everyone is Different, Later Rocky :twisted:

Ok, so then my forks are already up as far as they can go, yet, they are really at least 2-inches down, if compared to lengthier stock tubes. Another dead give away that the mechanic noticed was the excess front disc brake cable lengths, as can be seen in the photos. Interestingly enough, the licensed technician didn’t seem to have a problem with it, said it rode well in this lowered configuration, and then put his name on the line, in the form of a signature. It is now state inspected for safety, according to his inspection, and subsequent test ride. Who could ask for more…? I got quite a surprise recently; I learned that if you miss second gear coming off a roll, and then grab her when she’s tached up, low and behold, when she’s talking, she really starts walking!!!! :mrgreen:. It wasn’t exactly something that I planned on, yet, she broke loose for only a second or so, and I was definitely in the flux for a moment, yet at the same time, I certainly wasn’t asleep at the wheel either, so to speak :o. I can see this coming, keeping my hand out of the throttle, yea right. The only saving grace to this is that it can be quite exhausting holding on during a string of launches, and a short series of intense runs, thus you cannot keep doing it for very long, thankfully :D. Don’t get me wrong, like most; it’s not exactly how I do the majority of my riding, since that by obeying traffic laws in the first place, ensures that one will continue to enjoy a valid riders/drivers license. I suppose I will get the RMaker Fork-brace for added stability and as a finishing touch for now, then I need to put a hold on the out flow of cash that my new mistress seems to be demanding from me, and certainly it’s not because she is not worth it, it’s just that I have enough to do for now :wink:.

Hey Brian, I have Dyna Coils on Mine, Made the Brackets from 1" X1/8" Flat Stock, Front is 13/8" Rear 1". You also have to Bend the Brackets over 90 Degrees, Think it was 105 Degrees, Been a Few Years but This Sounds Close, Later Rocky :twisted:
 
Good news,

I am told that my “RMaker” fork brace is almost finished, and should be shipping within a week. As you might have guessed, I can’t wait to see it, and of course, install it. :mrgreen:

The new movie "Ghostrider" will be out in February and the previews look AWESOME....Even though it's not a 'motorcycle' film, it looks real cool, and I cannot wait for it to hit the theaters, it has been a while since I have seen a good film with bikes in it at all...."Torque" was crap and I just wonder why these Hollywood studios insist on making movies about 'cycles that just blow chunks....Check out the "Ghostrider" preview, lemme know what you think!

I know, it looks uber-cool.....2-16-07, I will be at the theatre, and then I will post a review, I just hope it doesn't suck!!!!
