is your motor a stock 1200 from a Voyager or is a built 1100? and what modes did you do? and if I may ask what did it cost you.

I usually sell the ZRX 1200 motors for $1k to $1,300
depending on mileage.
Concours trans shouldn`t cost much as they`ve been unchanged for
over 17 years(I think they have ZL 1k motors)
I used all the electrics from the ZRX but you could convert to the ZL
electrics easily.

`02 ZRX 1200 motor $0 (I bought a wreck and sold off the rest and got my $ back)
ZRX rear shocks $0
ZRX pegs $0 (front and rear)
ZRX controls $0
GPz 550 alum.brake pedal $0
trans. $900 trying to figure out what would fit so we all know.
X-pipe $237
braided lines $245
pods $75
paint $300
oil breather $13
black jetcoated headpipes ? (I haven`t got em back yet)
krinkle paint $18 (v-cover,clutch cover,pulsing cover,etc.)

I believe the donks are the same except to say the concours retains the balance shaft whereas the ZL9/1K didn't.

I think the ZL1K and GPZ900 both have 34mm bore carbs whereas the ZL9 had 32mm, did the concours have 34mm or 32mm?

Also, was the transmission ratios different on the GTR1000 (Concours) or was it the final drive that dropped the revs down for touring (compared to the white knuckle revs of the ZL's that is)?

Can't wait to see you get velocipede back on the road. Do ya think ya might get a small video for those of us who can't quite make out the noise coming across the Pacific?

If ya want more ooomph out of the concours trans you need to
replace the 1st,2nd and 3rd w/ZX11 gears.
I wish I knew this in the beginning as it would`ve saved a lot of time and $.
 
Hi Guys,
I have an opportunity to purchase a GPz900 engine as a parts engine for my ZL9. I was wondering how useful this would be and what parts might I be able to use. My ZL9 has the Wiseco big bore kit (75mm). Thanks for your help.
 
Hi ZLWINGNUT,
I think you will find a lot of the engine will be of use to you,
Main differences will be camshafts - higher lift to give more BHP at higher RPM. Oil pan is a different shape to clear exhaust cllector box.
Of course the barrels won't work with your big bore kit, but just about everything else should be OK.

I wish I could comment on the big bore kit. The bike came to me in boxes and I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine and then rebuilding the bike.

I dig the black fork legs and rear shocks, that looks really good!
I think I will paint mine black this next winter!

looks very cool. as for the engine there is a difference in the counter balance sys also. the ninja engine has a chaindrive counter balance., and yes cams, and carbs are different
 
It`ll fit w/minor mods(other than trans output shaft swap),why not use the whole motor?

it will work, and the shaft sys will bolt to the gpz engine, you would loose the bottome end grunt the eli is famouse for. but have a nice punch at the 4k range. and I would not have a clue how the chain drive counterbalance sys on the gpz would feel on an Eli. I would think it would be a real sluggish engine on the eli.. as the eli is heavier, swap cams and ya may have something real fun to play with
 
Thanks guys, My ZL9 engine is fine, I was just wanting a parts doner to fix it up should anything need replacing. Buying individual parts gets pretty expensive. I've got the top end off, new rings, valve job and almost ready to go back together. I'll post picture when it is mounted in the bike.
 
Great idea wingnut! I find that the best insurance policy to make sure something doesn't break is to have a spare on the shelf!!
