Fuel Capacity

Does anyone know approximately how much fuel is left in the tank of a zl900 when it hits reserve?

I am thinking around 3/4 to 1 gallon, but I was just wondering if anyone else knew for sure.
 
I know what it is in litres!

The tank holds 11 litres
At 8 litres its time to swithch to reserve.
That leaves 3 litres in the tank.
Thanks exactly 1/2 an imperial gallon.
3.8 litres = 1 US gallon.

I would say 3/4 of a US gallon.

Whew! That makes my head hurt. 8O
All I know is, I emptied the whole thing (2 1/2 g) in 35 minutes last Monday.

I was thinking around 1/2 to 3/4 of a gallon left for reserve also. Later.
 
Acording to the specs. I have seen, there is 1.1 Gallons remaining when you go to reserve. All I know is that when I switch, I head for the nearest gas station. Ran out of gas one time. That was one time too many :lol:
 
I ran out of gas one time also. It is a terrible dilemma...push this behemoth of a bike to the gas station or ... let a 20 year old, vintage classic set all by it's lonesome and go to get gas? !! What to do? I am sorry, I love this bike and I would be beside myself if a scratch were placed on it. It would almost be worth a call to the local recovery service. I ended up walking to a local convenience store, buying a 89 cent diet 7up, pouring it down the drain, and filling the bottle with regular unleaded, just for the peace of mind to know that I would not be leaving my baby all alone in a strange place unattended....Just rambling but, this did happen to me. I had forgotten, the last time I filled the tank, to switch the petcock from RES to ON. I thought I was getting some damn good gas mileage but NOT!!! Hey, it happens.... I wish the gas mileage were better but it is the price you pay to ride one of the eight wonders of the world. See ya, Bill 4
 
I've got Gas !

This past Spring was was with a bunch of guys and riding a coast road. We accumulated about 350 miles for the day, which means about 4 stops for gas along the way.
I too forgot to switch the from reserve to on once that day. About 20 miles from a gas station it sputtered a couple of times then died. Oh crap! Now what?
Well one of my fearless buddies says,"No Problem". He pulled up just to the right and a bit to the rear. Kicked down my right rear foot peg. Braced his foot against it and said, "Hold On".
Next thing I know, I'm doing 40mph, while a ZRX1200 is pushing me with about a foot between us.
He pushed me for about 20 miles this way, right to the nearest gas station.
I was a little un-nerved at first but, after 5 minutes or so we settled in, and this worked great.
I don't believe the Mounties up here in Canada would approve but frankly, the alternatives weren't very attractive.
I'd like to have a bigger tank of some kind to drop on it for those longer runs.
Any Ideas?

Bob, I was dying when I read that story. Just the image of seeing the Eli-monster being pushed by another rider. I guess anyone seeing it thought: " hey Ma, look that guy on that bad-ass looking bike is going so slow that the other guy is giving him a push." :lol:

I was realy lucky in that when I started to sputter, and realizing that all the cuss words in the world would not make the bike run or change the fact that it was out of gas, there was an Applebee's a few hundred feet from where I went from being "bad-ass and fast" to "no-go, dead slow." So I pushed it into the parking lot and parked in one of the spaces so it looked like I was having dinner there. Then came the embarrassment of calling my boss at my brand new job and asking him to pick me up and drop me home. anyway, I too had forgotten I was on reserve and it was only when I tried to move it over that I realized that I was done, it was fun, but now I had almost 600 pounds of bike to deal with. Anyway, alll's well that ends well. I came back with my gas can, cranked that baby out and was once again "Bad-ass and fast." :)
 
Hey Bob, theres a Guy in the UK that "Banded" his Tank, like a 2" Filler on each side, Good thing is the Tank will mount up to the Stock Holes. Check Ebay for used Tanks, You can usualy get them for under $100, I can Email the Guy in the Uk and have him mail you some Pics, Later Rocky :twisted:
