1. Guest,
We need good tech writers that are willing to help out here at ZL-OA. If you like taking photos of jobs as you perform the steps on your repairs, have historical ads/documents from old magazines, or any else you think belongs in the Technical Library than you might be able to help. Send a private message to Furchin, Mudrunner88, Chris, Jarney, Wuputt, or Markus56 and we can lead you in the right direction to get started.

Hi guys, just wanted to pop in and say thanks for such a great forum, looking forward to checking our the tips and tricks to these beasts.
Just purchased a ‘87 ZL1000 off EBay for $2200, needs some tlc but it’s a great base for my next project. I’m in Australia, anyone know where the best place for original spare parts is on this side of the world. Thanks in advance.

Welcome! From your poll, I am guessing that a paint job may be in the works. Have you seen the factory blue that was available to you Aussies?

I only voted black because that's what mine is, the silver looks good on yours but I would go back to black on the valve cover.

Welcome! I doubt you'll find much for it over there since it was so rare over there to begin with. We have parts over here so hollar when you're ready for them. Too bad it's still not the original Galaxy Blue color it came with. It's an awesome color!

Welcome. I too voted black due to no choice for the blue. My ZL10 is black but I really considered the blue that was not offered here. No matter what color you choose, enjoy that ride.

Thanks for the warm welcome. That’s not many members down here. Thought there would be more. It’s got staintune mufflers, has a nice note to it.

Hi, yes there is definitely a paint job in the plans, the poor old girl has a ding in the tank and flaking paint on the rear fender. I have only seen the blue in pics. Might buy a sample tin and go from there.

The valve covers will definitely be going back to black, not a fan of the chrome horn cover either.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

Hi, a shame there isn’t more parts availability over here. Thanks for the offer, I’ll be sure to post what I need as I find out. I will be going through it from one end to the other in the next few month to get her ready for summer. Will definitely look into the original blue.

Thanks, I will certainly enjoy the bike no matter the colour :)

:hello: I think the name of the blue is gallazie cosmetic blue. I think it was for the 1988 ZL 1000. Stormy is one of the members in your Country with a blue ZL 10. He is a motorcycle mail delivery guy. Here in the states we only had the 1987 in red and black. I have bought many parts from the land down under for my two vintage Honda 70s. Shipping was very reasonable.

Ok, thanks. Will check the paint store next time I am in town. Mine has a build date of 10/87.
Have been looking at parts on eBay from the states and the shipping looked scarily expensive.

Mine has a set sold as "Daytona" bend. Got them on eBay. No risers.

No worries, thanks for the info, will look into it. The bars it came with look out of place.
