Sitting in the office for a brief spell and Mike is out sweeping the sidewalk in front of the bar. This man is over 70 years old and may very well be able to whip my ass, and he ain't afraid to let me know it.

He works cuz all his korean war records were lost. He has taken schrapnel all over his body and finds it very hard to walk sometimes. He still puts in a 50 hour week of REAL manual labor. Wish our kids had his work ethic.

He tells me of some of his stories and they will curl his hair. He was in a battle called "baldy" His platoon was to take the hill called baldy against a force already in place. They got their ass handed to them after a slaughter and if I remember correctly less than 5 came back. He told me he shot two of his own. I suspect he is telling the truth, and it wasn't "friendly fire".

another story he tells is of two American GI's that raped a little korean girl. He messed em up "real" bad. They got sent to the back to be cooks and he got courtmartialed. Figures, military justice huh? Since that time he has had a definate dislike for certain ethnic types and he isn't afraid to tell them.

I have the greatest respect for this man dispite he racism had I been in his shoes I may have turned out the same. I give this man a "right handed" salute whenever I see him, this is one of the greatest signs of respect I personally can give. Most people get a left handed salute. Have a good day and hug a vet.

I was walking along a street in Washington DC with an american colleague a few weeks ago, this guy had spent some time in the us army, anyway, we were walking, and every so often we would pass by some bent over old guy, wearing a cap with military insignia and various pins and he'd be walking towards us.... well, the guy I was walking with would stop, stand rigid to attention and give a 'fingers to brow' salute to the ol guy and say...... "Thank you for serving our country.....SIR" and walk on again... Gave me goosebumps this did..... When I asked him later his reasons for saluting all these ol guys as he walked along, he simply said, "for their bravery"...
