Just how rare are these bikes?

Performance parts for 600

I have a 97 600 and i am looking for performance parts. Does anyone links or know of anywhere to get parts. The only thing i have seen for my bike is a jet kit. I want to make it a lot faster. I know nitrous is always and easy route, but what else is there out for my bike?

Well the 600 isn't much different from the 9/1K as far as availability of performance parts. There aren't many. Wanting to make your bike "much faster" is always a good thing but you will have to spend some $$$ in achieving your goals as much of what you want would have to be custom fabricated. Without digging into the engine a lot, the only real performance additions to any bike are jet kits and exhaust. Maybe an ignition advancer would help too but don't expect too much.

More power = lots of time, effort, and money. NOS is not an "easy way". I'm not real familiar with the 600s power plant however using NOS can severly damage the engine if not set up properly. You need to retard the ignition, new hotter plugs to light off the mixture, and enough exhaust capability to expel all the extra gasses. And remember NOS is only good at WOT. Installing the system can be a pain as well, I know I did it!

My suggestion if you want real power out of the 600 and don't want to upgrade to a 900/1K is to look into a motor swap. One of the new ZX6R motors would make a sweet upgrade if you can make it fit!

Injection is nice

Ethan;

Do you suppose, or do you know of anyone that has chaged their carb systems , on any of the ZL's to a fuel injection system? Possiibly adapted from the ZX9, 6 or ZRX bikes.
In principle it seems to make sense, and might be comparitively simple.
MACH IV, might be the man to ask, I suppose.
Wouldn't mind getting some input. :?: :!:

I have thought about FI'ing the bike several times but there would be some pretty serious work involved. Mounting the throttle bodies inplace of the carbs wouldn't be too difficult but then you also have to have several other things like a fuel return line to the tank, plus you have to find places to mount the computer, O2 sensors, fuel pump, and any other sensors your particular choice of fuel injection may need.

All of that is the easy part. The hard part is the FI mapping in the computer to get it to work with the ZLs motor. I don't know how efficiently the ZL would run with a fuel curve for a ZX motor as they are quite different in terms of fuel need.

Still would probably be fun to do.

does any one have the zx6r motor in

Does anyone have a zx6r motor in their eliminator?

You can also get Lazer Slipons for the 600, Think they Offer 2 Types, Will check on their Website and Post It, Later Rocky

if i got the Cobra, do i have to buy two, or do they come in a pair? Thanks

They come in pairs. And sound really nice, straight through with louvered baffle design.

well we all know how hard parts can be for our bikes, and we all know the zl900 was a two model year machine, now over 20 yrs old. Here in the states other than the Turbo, and the non-exsistant 750 I think our bikes must be somewhat rare ~more so than other 20+yr old Asian bikes are anyway~ does anyone have any Production numbers for 85-86 and the 87 zl1000 ?.....

production #'s

No one has been able to come up with any true kind of #'s. We all tried to determine this when KERA was running consistantly. Someone even called Kawaski to ask for help and was not given any answers. About the only way to get any idea would be for every ZL owner to post serial #'s and we know that is not going to happen. I truly would be interested in knowing the exact numbers. Furchin

Furchin is dead right, I called Kawi, the guy I talked to could not give out that info. I chatted with him a few minutes and he started feeling sorry for me so he gave me the phone number for a government run outfit. Can't remember the name but it was something with import. Anyhooo, I called them and they could not divulge the info either. There should be a post on KERA site, may have posted the phone number too..GOOD LUCK!!!
