Which Pingle Fuel Petcock?

I saw a posting that someone used a Pingel PowerFlo. That is fine by me. But which dimensions or part number? Or is there a better alternative? I rebuilt my fuel petcock about 5 years ago. Recently it began to leak. So, I rebuilt it again. It started leaking immediately. I took it apart and re-assembled it yesterday after finding that an o-ring may not have been seated correctly. Anyways, I put it the garage to store and it leaked all over last night. That's it, I've had it. Now I come to you guys for assistance. I went to Pingle and others, but find nothing that says this is the parts number you need for an '85 zl900. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey BigPapaRhino,
Just read your PINGEL Fuel Tap question, and found a thread that may be useful.
"Just for any body interested in this modification Ill give you some of the details.
Fuel Tap part number from Pingel 4311-CHV
Adapter part number from Pingel A1703C
22mm threads and 1.732 inches between the mounting bolts.
You will have to make the hole in the bottom of the tank larger as the stock tap is oval and the Pingel one is round. The Pingel tap will flow about three times the amount of fuel.

It is interesting to note that fuel starvation can occur at higher RPM,s, even with an engine in stock configuration, but especially when any modifications are made, thus you need to address the demand for more fuel flow, or all modifications may be for nothing, and as luck would have it, this usually occurs when you are depending on them the most. I decided to go without the vacuum assist, so I simply dropped the “V” off the part number, and saved some coinage. "

This new Pingel fuel valve not only looks good, but it solves the potential fuel flow problem.

Not what one would call an economical fix, huh. Alright, now if I go this route, what is the safest way to grind out that hole without going boom? Obviously drain fuel. Rinse repeatedly? Fill with water before I grind?

Pingle

I ordered a new Pingle petcock for my ZL 900, having fuel starvation problems. I will post how it worked upon installation. Thanks for the info.

The parts from Pingle arrived and are a nice product. The part numbers listed are good, several variations are available, flames ect.
The only problem encountered was the petcock hangs down alot further than the stock unit. The bottom of the valve shaft hits the coolant rail going into the back of the motor. The mount had to be massaged a little to give clearance. Other than that it works great, no more fuel problems.

Hey Tino,

Glad to hear it worked for you!

I have a couple questions for you that I could sure use your help on.

Did you have to grind the hole out for the Pingle to fit? If so, how did you keep from blowing up?

You used those exact numbers that were previously posted?

By "massage", you meant?

By the way, I used to live in Longmont and Boulder. I guess that makes us cousins in a way...jk :)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Pingle

Cousin Dan,
To grind on the fuel tank, I drained all fuel, dug out the garden hose and dishwashing liquid and flushed the tank. Use plenty of soap as the suds and water helps to keep you out of trouble. I used a carbide burr and air operated die grinder, read no electrical, to open the hole.
The coolantl rail has a bracket that bolts onto the back of the motor. It needs to have the radius opened up a bit. Be careful not to grind into the rail!!! A little touch up paint and presto.
I ordered the petcock that has flames etched into it, non vacuum actuated.
Go to the Pingle web site for all of the variations, as there are several.

P.S. I live on the north side of town, 136th and Colo. Blvd.

Pingel fuel tap

You can also have a vac cleaner running when you start to open out the fuel tap hole. This will keep air circulating and minimize the chances of a problem. :D

MOAB and I went to see the united states lawn tractor races in his hometown last week, I was waiting to see if you wanted to comment or not Andrew.

I have races nearly everything with a motor and usually done quite well, Well nothing I have ever seen compared to what I saw last week. These guys (and girls) have several screws loose. I'm not sure I would ever want to pilot one of these mods or not. It was possibly one of the coolest forms of racing i have ever seen (seen lawn mower ice drags in Upper Mn).

This particular track was a tight dirt oval maybe 100 yards long, they also race grass and roadrace course. the modifieds were running i suspect 55 MPH on the back stretch, front stretch damn near had a jump in th emiddle so they had to negotiate that. So a conservative estimate is 45-50 MPH down the back stretch, throw it into a VERY tight corner, (remember now you are on a mower, high center of gravity) with up to 15 other mowers. Your'e up on 2 wheels, back down on 4 if youre lucky and off agin for 10+ more laps.

These guys are nuts after visiting the pits but a very tight knot group of guys. i highly recommend that if theuy get close to you, go see them, support them people, these guys put on a good show, go ...laugh your ass off, and be sure to visit the pits and ask them about their mowers, they are more than gratious to tell you... over a beer or 12. Over and Out!!

Rednecks + ALOT of beer = Lawnmower racing.
That being said....A RIOT!!!!!
I don't know that I have seen much more entertaining racing than that....lowlife, U still gonna build one?
Call it the "Lawn Eliminator"
Keep me posted, bro, I am in for that project!
moab...

KK you have WAY too much freetime on your hands.

Turbo charged, NOS injected ZL900 motor in a garden tracter. Okay where's the beer, I'm on a roll with this design.
