Manuals - more useless/old info?

Wheel Conversion

I recently found a set of '87 ZL600 wheels and was thinking about purchasing them for my '96 ZL600. It appears that the rear wheel will fit with no problem, but I'm a little worried that my front brake rotor will not fit the older wheel, as the older eliminators require different pads. Does anyone have or know any further information about this?

Marty, Don't know about the brake pads but the rotors and calipers mount on opposite sides from the '96. Imagine this would be a problem since the rotor would bolt up on other side and you have no way of changing this.

You don't think I could mount the wheel backwards with the rotor on the opposite side?

Marty, Don't know if that's possible but certainly worth looking into. If I had better weather here I would get both of my bikes out of the shed and look at them to get an idea. 21 degrees this morning and not very condusive to outside work or observation. I'll try to remember to post something after the weather breaks. Although this may be too late for you if you have found a set of wheels. Furchin

Marty, Did you see that a ZL600 is being parted out on E-bay right now. It is an '86 model, or so the seller says, I wonder because the fender he lists is not an '86 model. Any way he is selling a complete front end, forks and triple trees, that you may want to look into if you are still considering the aluminum front wheel set up for your bike. This would eliminate the problem that you are incountering with the brake rotor being on the wrong side. Take a look maybe it will interest you. Furchin

Hey Moab,
all of the recent posts I made on the old emails were from about 3 or 4 years ago. Before this site started I had a habit of saving info from emails and posts from other sites that kept being reposted or asked about. Info that at the time I thought might be useful in the future to someone. I had a few minutes the other day and a decent connection to the internet so I dug through them all and deleted a bunch that were junk and posted what info I thought might still have a chance at being valid on here. Hope some of it helps someone. Later.
