I thought it was a miracle!

I couldn't believe it, my Eli finally figured out how to make its own gas! I took her for a nice little ride to run out the winter fuel, then stopped to fill er up. Shortly after leaving the station I started getting fuel in the crotch ya know? I was not real surprised cause my cap seal was weak last year and I would get a little overflow when i filled her up too high then romped on it. I putt on home (still pumpin fuel out the cap), get er in the garage and pull the cap, soaked up the mes and started waxing her. All of a sudden the gas starts again! I was tryin to figure out how I could put a switch on it cause that would be a dream come true, the ever full gas tank on an Eliminator! Then reality hit, I noticed a cream colored "baloon" inside the tank. Here someone did a **** job of creaming or sealing the tank in the past and when it started to release from the inside of the tank it got some air behind it. Well after sitting in the shop for a bit the heat from the engine got that air expanding and pushing the gas out(and my hopes up).
Now I got a mess on my hands, I know you guys have creamed your tanks. Where do I get it and how do you get the old lining out?

i don't think i'll be much help. i had to seal a tank on a vlx600 for the ol lady. i got the stuff at a local honda shop. i know i also saw it in dennis kirk. as far as removal good luck. i'll ask around and see if anyone around here has had to do it and let you know.
 
gas tank

Wuputt, Hey, sorry hear about your tank. I have a suggestion for you. Check out www.gas-tank.com They have a complete restoration process and will guarantee no rust for two years. A little expensive but probably worth it. Around $250 depending on total amount of work to be done. They are located in Greensburg, PA. Good Luck. Furchin
 
thanks for the web site. I checked it out but seems awful spendy by the time I have it repainted. I will probably go with DK or similar. Still dont know for sure how to remove old liner. HELP?
 
85 Ninja 600 just let it go to my boss. The guy wanted $250.00. I didnt want the headaches.

The tank though was sandblasted on the inside.

Looks like you might want to rent a blaster for the day.
 
Hey Wuputt, To get the old Liner Out U NeedAcetone or Methyl ethyl keytone This will Redisolve the Kreem or what ever is in there{ Sounds like Someone took a Shortcut and Did'nt Etch the Tank}Its Probaly going to Be Messy geting it out But the New Kreem Kit is about $22, Got mine from Competition Accessories in Springfield, any Questions Just Email me, Later Rocky :twisted:

I picked up a new cream kit at my local Kaw shop, they ripped me $32 bucks but I want it done so I can ride. They told me that the etching acid would eat the old cream, do you guys agree?
I will probably try pulling a piece out tonight and see if the acid will eat it.
 
I`ve heard the marine stuff is better and cheaper it`s red
like the stuff they use on candy coated apples.
Try your nearest boat yard.
 
Thanks guys, for your help. I got er all done a few weeks ago and you were right, It was a mess. I ended up soaking in Acetone for a week and a half, I bought 5 gallons in all, first two leaked onto my garage floor due to some idiots poor seal job on the petcock hole!!! Other than that it went pretty smooth.

One problem I see with any of the "monowheel" things is .. what happens in an "emergency stop" situation. (ie: hard, HARD braking)??? Do you then just become a "spoke in the wheel" and the whole lot continues turning??? The write-up mentions that exact situation.

What a "spinout" that'd be!! hehehe
 
I remember seeing them testing one on Ripley's Believe It or Not once. They got it to a top speed of about 53mph.

Tyre changes must be a ***** though, can you imagine ringing your local tyre place and asking for that size.
 
I saw that on discovery a few weeks ago! Jeasus, yer man driving it looked really uncomfortable in it and yeah, when he put on the brakes or accelerated he kinda rocked back and forth pendulum style in the hoop.
Emergency braking would be fun to watch but he didnt do that.....

Just another crazy engineer with too much time on his hands...
