Here are some pics of my mufflers that I had re-chromed at a local plater here in Houston. I had they guy blast the inside end of the baffles so I could paint them with a high temp flat black paint. The cost was 125.00 per muffler and I was very pleased with the way they came out.
I also included a before pic (first pic) of one of the mufflers with battery acid stains that were on the bike when i bought it.

Looks good to me, now just get those heat shields done and you'll be good to go! I think that's a very fair price too, considering what it costs to replace them! They just have to be "dent free", correct? What about scratches, can those be chromed over?

If you give them mufflers with a dent you will get a newly chromed dent back...lol.

I am doing the heat shields next, at the same time i am getting the scoops on my Vmax plated in nickle finish.

Alright! Looks good Levi. I would like to get in touch with this shop to see if he's willing to re-do mine since I'm not local. I've got one NOS muffler with the crappy as usual factory chrome job and a real nice used muffler. I'd like to get the whole exhaust done. I have been looking for someone willing to do the job and no luck so far, they all complain about mixing between chemicals/dips for mufflers. Did they mention any of that to you?

There was no discusion about mixing chemicals, his only concern was particles getting hung up in the baffles since they cant be removed. When I got my mufflers back there were only a couple of tiny particles that rolled out the end when i turned it over and shook it.

Well, I'm a little confused. I just found this on the website. If they don't take credit cards, how I am supposed to pay them????

When shipments arrive, the boxes are dated. The following day they are assigned a job number, then opened one at a time and digitally photographed for inventory control. When bumpers and bumper guards are inventoried we also engrave the job number on the back. That way we know you get back your original pieces and they are dated for warranty purposes. No deposit is required unless stated. We cannot provide an exact price quote over the phone or internet. Once we see the parts we can give you a more accurate estimate. All items must be taken apart 100%. If we have to take apart your pieces we will charge you and will NOT put anything back together. Our minimum charge is $100 per order. We do not take any credit cards. Occasionally, when we strip and clean a part, we find cracks, dents and deterioration that you or we may not have noticed when originally priced. 24K Gold will be charged at 100% over the chrome price and carries no warranty. Be sure to include year and model of your part and name, address, phone number and any special instructions. We try to get all jobs out in 15 working days.

Yeah I just noticed that myself...I did not know that he did not accept credit cards because I paid in cash. Im sure you could send a check or money order after you agreed on a price, I would just call the number on the website and ask for Craig and I am sure he will work something out.

Did they chrome over the lettering on the pipes or was it already gone or is it just not visible in the "after" pics? I'm interested in a group rate if someone checks into it - I think I have a set or two to be rechromed. Later.

You just cant see the lettering in these pics because it is on the bottom of the mufflers. Here is a pic of the bottom.

A lot of companies now take paypal. I wonder if they do.

If they don't take credit cards, probably won't take paypal. A lot of small businesses are trying to encourage cash; the processing fees for credit cards/paypal are eating up too much profit. Their choices are to raise prices to cover the difference [which can be up to 10%] which can cost them customers, or drop the added service. While doing business online pretty well necessitates electronic payment; a local small business often doesn't need the extra cost. As consumers move away from credit card transactions in general [part of the economic "hangover" a lot of people are suffering], cash is returning to it's "king" status.

Besides, it's harder for the IRS to track!! :)

For a long distance transaction such as this, you could simple send a money order. While this is "old school", it would still get the job done.

I asked the question and here's the response I got, if somebody wants to ask about a "group muffler" discount, go ahead, I currently don't have any mufflers decent enough to have chromed!

When we ship all over the US we accept money orders and cashiers checks only. If you would like your friend to pick up in person he will have to pay with cash. Maybe our rules are kinda stiff but we do not get burned very often and have not had to raise our prices because of bad checks or non payment. Thanks for your interest in our plating it is nothing but show quality and we take pride in that, and takes only 15 working days to complete. Thanks Again Craig<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
