MY EFFORTS FOR LESS FREQUENT FUEL STOPS

Seat Covers

Hi Guys
The seat cover on my Thou is falling apart and I can't find anyone to suply a replacement here in the uk. The only place on the interweb was XS Parts but they have taken them off the online shop now?

Can anyone give me the name/ web address of a suplier,

Paul, I would try the following web site; www.motorcycleseatcovers.com I believe they are located in Texas of the USA. Last time I looked they had the ZL covers and at a fairly good price. Furchin

Well, i talked to some of you, & told you i was going to put a bigger tank on my bike, so i would'nt have to stop every 50 miles to fill up. i bought a Buell Cyclone tank & it came today, so i tore Eleanor down & started to fabricate the new tank to fit, & ended up with less fuel capacity than the stock tank, not to mention, " i did'nt like the way my bike looked !" just did'nt look rite ! so, after all my efforts, & $$$$ spent, i put the stock tank back on, & it's going to stay on !!!! i'd rather stop for fuel every 50 miles, than to disgrace the beauty of the zl !!!!!!

moral of the story, " LEAVE THESE BEAUTIFUL MACHINES STOCK IN APPEARANCE. " the sacrifice is minimal on our part, for the looks we all get when people look at our bikes as we take off into the sunset, leaving all others behind ! ....... CHRIS
 
Just out of curiosity, did you get a pic or 2 of it with the Buell tank?
I just can't picture it....Ohhh great, I bruised my brain.....Fantasikjdecvowwlrl......SEE?????

NO,i did'nt but go to sjdevil's album. his yellow zl has a cyclone tank on it. picture that, in black, & with the stock grab bar & passenger seat . that will give you a better idea ! don't get me wrong ! it looks cool, but i don't want to start hacking up my bike, & my seat ! it'll take the value away, & i like the stock look better ! CHRIS
 
there have been a few people that have put tanks from Vulcans on their ZL, it helps keep a more stock look and gives an extra gallon of cap.
 
My girlfriend's Dad has a spare tank from an old Kawasaki 1100, can't remember which one. We were thinking of putting it on my bike, so we took the tank off and went to rest this one onto it to see what needed changing. The front was too thin to go over the plastic shrouds at the front and we also realised it was about 2 inches too long as well, so I would have had to get a custom seat and cut the tank up to get it to fit.

Shame, the tank held 4 gallons :( I was only going to put it on for long journeys.
 
I'm getting an honest 36-7 MPG when I ride it right. (Hard to do)
 
If you are riding it "right", then the mileage should be much lower and you should need a new back tire by now!!!

i can't really say i like the look of the cyclone tank more or less, because it is SO different. i used the new look as a centerpiece to mod the bike even further since that pic, giving it an edgy modern appearance. i like the new look, but when i mod a bike i usually don't like to change the overall appearance, but i will say this; for me, 170 miles to a tank FAR outweighs style preference...still, i do appreciate an unmolested classic
 
p.s. when it comes to value on a custom bike, value is in the eye of the beholder :D bike is already sold for 4700 upon completion of new paint job. $1300 purchase + 400 parts and paint + 4700 sale = 3000 more in my pocket for next project.
