checking oil?

How do you check the oil on this thing? :oops: I know there is supposed to be a clear bubble type of thing above the stand, but the diagram under the seat shows it on the other side of the bike. What's up with that? Thanks in advance.
 
As you sit on the bike it is on your left side way down bu the shift lever.

Yes it just kind of blends in with the motor being black and all I believe that it is right below the slave cylinder for the clutch. Right behind the shift lever.

GPS. The 3.7 Liter on the Fill Stick is WRONG, Cases are GPZ 900 which had the Oil Cooler, This held about an Extra .5L. The OIL BUBBLE is the Best way to Check, I like to keep mine on the HIGH side, Dont forget the Bike has to be Level when you Check it, Later Rocky

Hey GPS,
As these guys have said, it's tricky to see. Have someone sit on the bike and hold it upright and level for you. Get on the left side and look with a flashlight - the sight glass for the oil level is in an area that accumulates a lot of grease and road grime. There have been times when I could barely see mine from all the dirt. I guess I should get off my butt and keep it a little cleaner huh? hahaha. Oh yeah, as Rocky stated, when doing the oil change, just go off the sight glass, add a little oil at a time until it shows between the marks on the sight glass. The numbers in the books and on the case are not real accurate or right. If you overfill, you will blow out valve cover gaskets, crankcase vents or get oil in the airbox (I think I have heard of all of those things happening to various people who ended up overfilling the oil.), and the oil will look kind of bubbly in the sight glass, like it's got water in it. I check my own oil by sitting on the bike and using a mirror with an extension handle. It works slicker than a trout!

I wish the oil sight window on my Triumph was as big as the one on my Eliminator...I need a magnifying mirror for that one.

Hello to all
I shall be annoying everyone with my constant questions shortly having just bought a place with somewhere to keep my bike - 86 green gold n cream eliminator.
Bought it four years ago and never ridden it due to ;

1 lack of licence
2 lack of secure storage

but never due to a lack of interest!!

Am i the only one to have a green gold n cream Eli?!?

first question where on earth do i get a decent manual - Kawasaki Motors? downloaded one from the web......... but, well to say it's shite does it too much justice
 
600 I believe it to be an 86....................but then I take it you mean built in 86? - imported vehicle declared built in 86 hope I aint making a twat of myself here as to be honest I know bugger all - but learning!

Yeah thanks, however I already had the smaller download of the two -(owners manual) but have just spent the last 4 hours downloading the other one at a piss poor speed only to find it is the manual but it keeps refering to the "base manual" :mumum: -is there a manual for 4cyl kawasaki's in general? :help:

Can you still buy the manuals? - so many questions I'll try again tomorrow
 
OOPS! I guess no one told you. Sorry 'bout that. There are three manuals for an Eli. They are; the owners manual which comes with the bike, the ZL suplement, and the base manual, which is the GPZ manual. I'm not sure if the 6 is the same as the 900, but I'll check for ya. I don't believe it is though. I'll see what I can kick up online for you. Sorry about that. I had a devil of a time figuring it out myself.
