Manual of the 9 tells:
SAE 10W20
capacity: 276 +-2.5 mL
(approx. 235 mL at oil change)
oil level: 170+-2mm (fully compressed)

okay...? :)

Thanks, I use tranny fluid in my forks.
(where`s the smiley eating popcorn)?

why do you use tranny fluid if you said oil?

Because it`s reffered to as fork oil, what are ya f`king w/me?

Besides if I said tranny fluid you guys wouldn`t know what I was talking`bout.

Sorry man, didn't mean to tweak you out, I was just wondering. I think most of us would know what tranny oil is anyway and most of the guys here or at least I would have thought you had all that info yourself. I thought you were f'king with us. Don't sweat it, be cool 8)

No worries,hence the..

I figure you guys know what trans fluid is but if I said tranny fluid
for the forks soeone would`ve said WTF?
I don`t have a manual for it yet.

Just to clarify Harriminators figures, the “170+-2mm (fully compressed)” is without the spring.

And for others interested, my dealer suggested that '10W' fork oil was the best equivalent for SAE 10W20 and most appropriate for the ZL1K (I assume the ZL9 would be very similar in not the same). When I replaced the seals in mine I used '10W Fork Oil' and found it to be an excellent grade (in my limited experience). I've never bottomed out, and some of our roads are rough, and typically I use most of the travel available. The rear shocks will be my next project, and then service and adjust the swingarm bearings.

i was told that the closest equivalent to actual FORK oil would be a 50/50 mix of 10w30 and trans fluid. i have used this mix for years in several bikes including the zl1k. never had any problems still have the zl and oil/seals were changed 2 years ago.

I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I enjoyed the albums, you all have such nice rides. This is my first forum so excuse the clumsiness. I have a 96ZL600 w/1,400mi that my husband bought for me and have been loving it. Riding the canyons Sunday :D and can hardly wait.
