New zl site!

Hi all!
I just wanted to announce a new zl owners association. www.zl-oa.com Please stop by and register; am looking forward to hearing from you.

Ethan, would it be alright to have a link to KERA?

It wont let me redgister says I am using an illegal name or somethin, whats up with that?

Newfie Bullett  :)

pm me your email address and the nickname you are trying to use, i'll hook you up

I am a member of that site and it is taking off fast! I hope that everyone checks it out soon.

Hi there!
Just purchased an 87 ZL1000 after lusting after my buddy's for years now. The more I ride this bike, the more I love it! Her inaugrual ride today was a nice 3-hour loop from Marlton, NJ to Valley Forge, PA - taking as scenic a route as possible.
:)
She's everything I could have hope for and more!

I saw a complete ZRX exhaust for sale and I was wondering if it would fit the ZL1000? I'm slightly vertically challenged (5'4") and I was interested in the Mean Streak shocks that I read about. Would a stock pair lower my bike, or do I need to find lowering shocks for an MS?

Thanks for any help in advance!

-Fran

Welcome beeZLbub!

I envy you, I have to get a zl1000 to sit beside my zl900.

The zrx exhaust will not fit. If you look at the zl outer pipes they have an outward kick to clear the frame down tubes.

The shocks should fit. I don't know the specs on what you will lose in length. You might have to change the bushing out to make them usable on the zl. Wuputt has progressive shocks on his to lower it, check out his gallery.
Thanks for filling out your location! please take a few moments and upload some pics! Hope you enjoy the site!

WELCOME beezlbub !!

i'm not sure about the shocks, but i know a few people here can help you out. i'm glad that you love your zl. we all here have a passion for these bikes, from the 1000, 900, & all the way down to the 125, they are all awesome bikes !!!! CHRIS

zlMark,
I run my own forum for AMC (American Motors) cars & I require folks enter their location before they're allowed to post. I appreciate knowing where a member is when I'm "speaking" to them.
:D

Thanks for the tip on the exhaust - I'm pretty new to this whole ZL thing so I might be asking some dumb questions. I'll be giving your Search feature a workout! LOL

Wuputt has progessive shocks made for the ZL or the ZRX? I'll go check out some of his posts now.

Chris,
I've got a good friend that's owned a 87 ZL1000 for longer than I've known him (going on 7 years now) and I've always wanted one of my own. It took me a while, but I finally got mine! They are definately awesome bikes!

Here are some pics:

love the pics. bro !!!!!!! you definately have one nice ride !!! CHRIS

Nice pics beeZLbub, that's a hell of an upgrade though from that little bike to the ZL1000 :)

Thanks!

This is definately the nicest bike I've ever bought! I usually buy rolling junk and try to fix 'em up! LOL

acp,
C'mon - the Magna isn't THAT little ;)

J/K - my little man loves that Power Wheels bike - makes him feel like Dad rolling down the sidewalk on his very own ride! LOL His bike rolls at 2.5mph but there's a "turbo" button (that we haven't showed him yet) that boosts it to 5mph! He has a blast when we "race" around the block!

Another query - would a ZRX (or any other smaller radiator) work on the ZL? Just wondering if I could get something a little smaller on there.

Nice red zl1000, after seeing furchin's in person at mid-ohio these red ones are coming out of the wood-work! Looks like the bike is all stock and if it was mine I would leave it that way(radiator, exhaust, etc) These are really becoming a collectors item and parts are starting to go through the roof :ignore: I gotta watch what I say, I'll drive the prices up by saying this publicly, that last sentence will be quoted on ebay one of these days :rotf:

"after lusting after my buddy's for years now. The more I ride this bike, the more I love it!

Sounds like a love affair that may make your wife somewhat jealous

"I'm slightly vertically challenged (5'4") "

Look at it as all things being equal, you will be faster than me 6'4" 220

"I run my own forum for AMC"

We will get along just fine. Welcome to the forum

Hey Beez, I checked out your forum, reminds me of my younger days! I had a '68 AMX, it was stupid fast just like my ZL1k!
The first mod I did to my ZL1k was to install Progressive 412's on the rear and lower the front by 3/4" by sliding the fork tubes up in the tree. The result was seat height lowered by over an inch and better handling. I bought 11.5" shocks, stock ones are 13.5". I was lucky to find the shocks in a closeout sale and got em for $200.

Here is the best pic I have with the shocks. Also, if you were thinking of ditching the inner fender, here it is!

Looks like we think a lot alike! :thumbright:

Let me start off by saying that I'm VERY excited with this new bike - and because of that excitement, I'm all over the place with what I may or may not want to do. As of this very second, I want to keep it 100% stock, because it's in such an original state. But then I start wondering (after perusing the Gallery here) what this mod or that change would look like on my bike. LOL

So please view my questions with that in mind - I'm not LOOKING to do anything with the bike right away but ride it. I would like to lower the bike (thanks for the pic wuputt!) just because I'm "vertically challenged" - but even that can wait.

That said - can a ZRX radiator work on a ZL1000? ;)

lowlife,
I'm a real stocky 5'4"... you've only got 40lbs on me! (mebbe I shouldn't be drinking this Slurpee right now...)

Here's a pic of my & my younger son on my old ZN700:

(I sold that bike to buy the ZL)

wuputt,
A 68 AMX? 343 or 390? Of course, I love the AMX's!
If you're even due south in Buckeye Lake, OH - stop in and see my good buddy, Mike Luke - you can't miss his shop, it's a two-story painted in the AMC logo! He holds an annual AMC Drag Race @ National Trails Raceway that has to be seen to be belived! :)

Looks like OneStopMoto has the 412's for ~$230 - thanks for that tip!

I stopped by my buddy's today - the guy who introduced me to Eliminators many moons ago - he's had his ZL1000 for so long, he can't even remember when he bought it!

Hi beezlbub, Welcome to zl-oa. nice lookin 1k you have there...

the more i see these 1k's the more I want one... hmph... "japanese".. you'll be eating bowls of rice while polishing your ZL soon my friend... Its inevitable... whahahaha

Welcome

Let a newb in on the inside joke!
:)

Hee hee - being Filipino, I eat bowls of rice whenever I do ANYTHING anyway LOL. That's no big change for me! I hear the starch works well with a buffing wheel! And the Spam oil works well to protect the finish!
