El 250 questions

I have an el 250 1991 ineed parts and info on the bike. mainly general info.

I have been running Rotela 5w-40 synthetic in my zl1000.
I was at wal-mart today and almost opted for the 15w-50 dino.
My bike is pretty cold blooded, and I figure the thinner stock will circulate and warm easier.

As the season progresses I will essay to dial in the carbs. I have a new OEM air element on the way, as well as the snorkel to the air box the PO did away with .

This machine was hailed a potent right out of the box, so what I want to do is restore the original tune, with maybe a tad of illegal enrichment.
I want to learn carb sync, then she should really go. I will see about jetting and what not if I dont destroy it doing the simpler work.

I used to run 20w50 amsoil synthetic. Shifting doesn't like the thick oil. Now i run 10 w 40 golden spectro synthetic, Made a big difference in shifting.

I like your plan with the stock appearance and the illegal enrichment

not to be a smarty pants, but

I ran Gspectro for years in my FJ1200. I traded that bike on a Valkyrie with 58,000 miles and it still pulled like a branded mule.
I changed the oil frequently, even tho the gspectro was touted as long drain.

I have seen some oil analysis on G spectro that are not so flattering. THe data suggests little ,if any, superiority to Auto synthetics.

Finally, I suppose any quality oil, motorcycle specific or not, (without getting into the wet cluch controversy)will suffice if it is changed regularly.

I did partially seize a CB900f once using valvoline dino in 90 degree weather. I was broke (in '89) That oil may have been ok for a thousand miles, but was dishwater on that fateful day.
