Here's the good guff, assuming your ZL’s switch specification and configuration were as per Kawasaki's (as my Aussie model is, numbers in degrees Celsius). Oh, I apologise if I’m trying to teach you how to suck eggs, I may be way off track (i.e. I’m telling you nothing new). At the very least, the following may help others understand the ZL cooling system.
The 1st item in the system is the 110 switch (fan ON) immediately before the thermostat. This is located here because it's where the hot water (i.e. hottest part of the system) rises/flows to before the thermostat opens and if the thermostat is U/S (unserviceable - stuck closed) it will turn the fan on when water reaches this temperature.
The 2nd item is the 97 switch (fan OFF) at the base of the radiator. This is located here because it’s where the water is coolest before heading off to the heater (engine). The 13 degree separation between the specs of the 1st and 2nd switches provides the normal operating range of the cooling system. It also prevents the fan from rapid cycling on/off as it would if it were controlled by a single switch.
The 3rd item is the 120 switch (over temperature light) immediately after the thermostat. This is located here for similar reasons as the 1st 110 switch; however the fan ON switch takes priority over the ‘idiot light’ (being before the possibly stuck closed thermostat).
When you say “Also need to know pos. or neg. trip” I assume you want to know whether they switch on or off (I also assume you know its power is positive to the switch as they close circuit to – ground).
With regards to the ZRX system, advice from my dealer is that the switch on the thermostat operates the light and the switch on the radiator performs the function of both ON and OFF switches for the fan hence the two wires (the fan only cools that which is in the radiator so why sense temperatures elsewhere in the system like the ZL does with the 110 switch before the thermostat).
