Jetting with Pods

I own a '85 ZL900 and I am planning to use K&N pods with the stock exhaust. I was wondering if anyone is using this setup and, if so, what jetting you are using. I am hoping to avoid using a jet kit and be able to swap main jets and shim the needles so that I can get the equivilent for about $20. If anyone has done this please let me know what jets and shim thickness you have come up with. Thank you in advance.

You may get too much air. You would have to do some FUEL/AIR mix adjustment.

I used K&N Jet kit with UNI foam PODS. They are 14 bucks each the jet kit was off ebay for 35 bucks.

I jetted using the stage 3 #136 jet. Kept the stock exhuast and she screams in response. Gas milage went down a bit.

You just may have to keep tweaking here and there to get it right without jetting. You also have to get a hose and a crankcase filter. Advance Auto Parts sells them for about 4 bucks. I used 2/3 inch hose.

You also have to block off the main recovery hose or cap the ends at the heads.

PODS are nice as to no air box. You can also just hear the power underneath you when you hit the thottle.

is that a typo michael? never heard of 2/3 hose. I need to get my breather for mine as well thats why i ask.
 
I will add a few things since I am in the same boat. I bought a Emgo breather like the one on the left in this pic:

I used the rubber elbow off the stock airbox into a straight barbed nipple then into a hose to the breather. Then I bolted the breather flange to the welded nut on the frame where the stock airbox was bolted. Gives a clean look. I did have the breather hose from the valve cover routed to another cheap breather under the seat but it gave the bike a funny sound so I have since blocked that off. I haven't done anything with the fuel vapor hose, was going to route it into the same breather as the one for the valve cover, just haven't decided yet. Not as low buck or simple as the other suggestions, but it looks good and the chrome breather was only about $18 locally. One thing about the K&N's, I keep bumping #'s 1 and 4, enough to knock them loose. There was a mod on this site, but I am going to take it a step forther and sucure the filters to the frame. Pics to follow once I get it done, probably about a week or two.
 
Gee long time. 2/3 is definitely a TYPO.

The hose is a 3/4 inch the little crankcase filters are also at Autozone I ran the hose up just under the frame by beside the battery.

Works fine.
 
Ok, one more question that may be in the wrong place......
I've seen a lot of posts of guys that have a parts cross reference cd. Is this something that gets updated or something that someone snuck out of a stealership and made copies of or something? If it's something that's available to anyone, would it be handy to have a copy for posting on the site? Or would that violate a bunch of copyright laws and crap like that? Just curious, sounds like it would be handy to have around. Later.
