1. Guest,
We need good tech writers that are willing to help out here at ZL-OA. If you like taking photos of jobs as you perform the steps on your repairs, have historical ads/documents from old magazines, or any else you think belongs in the Technical Library than you might be able to help. Send a private message to Furchin, Mudrunner88, Chris, Jarney, Wuputt, or Markus56 and we can lead you in the right direction to get started.

So this past winter I lucked up and got a zl900 for $400. No title and running sickly. Fast forward, got a titled frame from Cali just short of $300. Broke it down and with everyone's help BAM..... I got zl fever. Though it's still a work in progress it's sweet. Built zg bottom engine with zx1100 top. It was that way when I got it. Not sure it's origin. When I can keep it running it sucks the headlight out of all I pass.

Now, shortly after I ran up on a 03 Vmax. College kid dropped it and got scared. Got it for $800. Sold it for $3500 and a 92 zr750 Zephyr project.

But today guess what I drug out of a backyard shed? 87 zl1000 !! I have been riding it for the last hour after I got it running. Run like a beast. It looked as it was prepared for winter storage and dry. Gas, battery and a quick brake check and I was off. Now there are some things missing and changed but easily fixed. Need gauges, handlebars for sure. But man..... I think it is my new favorite.

Need a left side cover too. No matter the color, as it will go to paint "black" soon as I get one.

And horns and the ever elusive horn covers. I probably have them, plus the handlebars, and perhaps tach and speedo. I should have time to look tomorrow if interested. Nice score!

Yep. I'm interested. It has 1 black horn on the left side. Looks like a car horn. No horn on the right. Let me know what you got. Gauges would be great. Not sure what kind of handlebars I'm going with. Something 900ish with risers or Clubmans. Might snag the ones off my 900 and then put drag bars on it.

The bars are like Z bars and really narrow. Maybe 20". They definitely have to go. Got a friend with an old KZ cafe that wants to try them out.

:hello: The 2006 BN125 A6F Eliminator bars are almost the same that the ZL 1000 uses. They are the same width and 1 inch lower. Also the rearward bend is not as much as the ZL 10 bars. I mounted them about a month ago. https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/kawasaki/motorcycle/2006/eliminator-125-bn125a6f/handlebar part # 46003-1555. Price from partzilla $35. https://www.partzilla.com/product/kawasaki/46003-1555?ref=c30752dc41066d87bc8b5df6dd17471f91b8ef60 ____________________________________________________ IMG_7588.JPG IMG_7589.JPG IMG_7591.JPG IMG_7590.JPG

One other thing. Did y'all see that the zl1 has an old set of Dunlop Qualifiers. Too bad the are toast/dry rot. Oh the days of white letter badass tires. I guess it will get what is available now.

Unknown mileage due to BOTH gauges being gone and a silly micro speedo in place. Then there are those bars. Someone was doing their best to cruiser the old girl. Glad I got it so it can return to true ZL glory. And by the way those goofy mirrors when right in the trash as soon as I got hold of a 14mm wrench.

Sorry about my failure to reply, my truck broke down today and I've been working on it. I will get to check what I've got for the ZL1000 left in a couple of days.

I like those white letters on the tires too. I ended up painting the letters on my bikes tires. You can buy a white paint pen at most auto shops and fill in the letters. Take a look...

:hello: Nice bikes. :notworthy:. A friend of mine just bought a 2018 Z 900. He is short like me. He bought the shorter seat and an adjustable lowering link 2 to 4 inches. He also installed a different exhaust system because the OEM one was almost scraping the ground.

I like the suspension set up on the 900. What is it front and rear? Meanstreak rear? Front?? And I'm getting one of those white letter pens.

The new z 900 is top of my next NEW bike list too. Love the look. My 1st bike was a 78 kz. The zr750 that was give to me with the sale of the Vmax is close too. It had sat as a incomplete project for 10+ years and I got it bake running in a weekend. There is a video of it running ruff on the tube. It broke back down now for more extensive work.

No problem. Just let me know when you can. I found a zl600 tach in my small zl parts assortment. Maybe it will work??
