looking for my old red ZL900

Trying to locate my 1st 900 eliminator I bought new in '85 she was red vin#JKAZL2A19FB501431 My wife talked me into selling it to buy some property (yes I'm still married to her) after owning it for 6 yrs. From its home in Michigan, I believe the bike went to Kentucky. The man that bought in was about 60 years old driving a convertable mustang (he was a cool old cat) I know it's a sad story,,But i told (YES TOLD) her I was going to get another one which I did in August. This one is a black 900, so all is well,, so check your #'s guys I need to know if she's OK, thanks

P.S. still looking for a set of nice original mufflers an those dam chrome side covers

hey, you can get the chrome sidecovers from Kawi, least I bought them 3 yrs ago

Thanks, I'll start saving my pennies and give it a try, I'm sure there not going to be cheap if they still have them

Regarding the chrome airbox covers ... this subject has been covered a few times in here before, but without the "search function" working makes it a bit hard to find stuff.

Both BikeBandit and RonAyers still have the covers listed.

See the 5th post down on this page .. http://www.eliminator-us.org/kforums/viewtopic.php?t=720

I'd be fairly sure you could source the covers new from either BikeBandit or Ron Ayers ....

Cheers

Ross

Road Runner, with regards to the noise cans, try this mob:

http://www.midland.se/sortiment.html#Anchor-KAWASAKI-47383

They still have the ZL1000 listed on this page so they should be good for it. perhaps someone else has investigated and can offer further info.

I also have a photo I can post if anyone wants it (it aint too bad, not original but close and certainly in keeping with the OEM style).

I did aquire the side covers from Ron Ayers, they stated that Kawi still
lists them for $72.00 ea. Still waiting to see them,, should be here in a week or so. I did get some info on the Stainless Steel mufflers from
Henrik from the Eliminator site DK,,around $930.00 a set. The ZL900
and the ZL1000 have the same part #,,Thanks everyone for your help.

Mufflers are still available if you want OEM. I got mine for about $250 each from Parts Depot. They had the covers for about $60 too.

Good Luck!

I did find a set of used mufflers in pretty good shape from an
e-bay seller,,,so I'm good to go!
Thanks

hi all
got the zl600 back on the road today started fine ran ok for a few miles then when i stopped at lights went to pull off and it stalled on me.
restarted gave it some serious revs fine up to the petrol station but cut out at the exit to the station same thing handful of revs to get away.
same at the roundabout took me 3 attempts to get away.
at work the tick over was bouncing up and down from just below 1000 rpm up to around 1500 then dropping back.
bike sounded terrible rattling ect.
ran back home fine giving it plenty of revs got home and the same thing rpm bouncing up and down have tweaked it to just under 2000 rpm and it sounds better but still bouncing.
bike has been laid up for around 2 months due to my cock up with the chain.
what is the recommend rpm setting?
may be **** in the tank or passably petrol going off.
put in £6 of super unleaded to see if it makes a difference any i dears welcome.
was considering a bit of redex but will give you chaps the chance to pass on your wisdom

forgot to mention bike has only just done over 1100 miles genuine so cant be ware in the carbs

Check the normal, fuel tank vent clogged? Dirt in fuel bowls? drain them into a glass and have a look. Kinked fuel line?

...or fouled spark plugs, spark plug wire come adrift inside the cap? timing? blocked idle jets? hole in a carb diaphram? vacumn diaphram in the tank fuel tap perished? needle and seat in one carb blocked not working properly? float level leaking / not rising? if it does go, but dies soon after it's a fuel problem, for sure.

It could be a simple fix, could be difficult to pin down, it's a just a process or elimination.

The good book says, warmed up idle setting @ 1000 rpm for ZL1000 don't know about ZL600, but they are pretty much the same for most bike engines, nowadays.

Mick.

well been riding the zl every day to work and a quick ride out.
put some octaine booster in the tank and topped up with super unleaded.
bike ran a bit odd for a while as explained above but has settled down now.
so s;lowly turning the rpm down bit by bit every few days will do this until i get to around 1000rpm.
the engine rattle was the clutch basket this to has sorted its self out so was probably sticking a bit.
the bike is pulling like a good un hit 60 on the back road in the valley with out
me noticing when i did dropped it to 40.
up the a48 to norms caff up to 70 no problems with plenty in reserve.
must say its probably the quickist bike off the mark i have ever riden.
:D

Sometimes a good fuel cleaner will straighten things right out for ya. We here in the US have sea-foam. I've used it personally on my own xvz1200 that sat for 5 years before I got ahold of it. I mixed gas and sea foam 50/50 got it started and shut er down once I knew it was burning the sea-foam. let it soak over night. I then drained tank, lines and bowls and added some fresh gasoline and it cleared right up.
