American chopper - OCC...

Hi folks,
at the moment there's this "soap" on German tv about Paul, Pauly&Co. of the family biz OCC; just wondering how they ever got a bike ready when watching Paul sr. shouting at his son nearly all the time :evil: and ridiculous to see when bikes are falling off from the lifters or probs on building in the engine: "Oohh, have to grind away a piece of the frame..."
Okay, they build Harleys - modest in all ways, but a nice amusement every sunday afternoon with donuts and coffee :lol: . Anybody of you who has already seen an episode? In the States or somewhere?

I've seen more episodes than I care to admit. They started showing OCC over a year ago, can't exactly remember when they started. I like some of the work they do, but they make some turds too. But the show got real old, real quick. It was always the same thing, they arfe pressed for time, Paul Sr. yelling about putting his size 12's somewhere, etc. I would rather watch "biker build off" or "build or bust".

I saw it on Discovery Channel on ASTRO (satellite TV) in Malaysia and Cable TV in Taiwan. I've only got regular free to air TV in Oz, (when I learn how to cook that might change).

I've got to say the same thing goes on between my wife and my son, they each miss each others point and go on the defensive every time the other opens their mouth, that when its time for me to go and test the odometer on the Eli to ensure it still works.

Like Gosupes I too would rather watch the three episodes of "biker build off". I don’t know if there were other episodes but I watched the one between the Martin Brothers from Texas and Exile Cycles from L.A. (read Britain) and Scotty's Choppers here in Oz (http://www.scottys-choppers.com.au/). I must say that show was a better production (IMO). Without blowin’ my own horn, I thought it enlightening how Scotty’s bike didn’t use any bog and the final product was a “warts and all” of his handcraft. Of course he didn’t win enough votes (me thinks the general public was duped by the fancy paintwork on the other bike and didn’t fully appreciate the craftsmanship in Scotty’s bike). Just as a footnote, at the time my brother (RF900) painted my ZL he was working in a hardware store that backed onto Scotty’s business, he recons it was fascinating how much extra traffic they got after the episodes were shown on Discovery Channel.

Now I must go see “Build or Bust”.
 
Yeah, it's been on in the States for a few years, i'd guess, and i've (tried) to watch it a few times. What a bunch of retards. Rich retards, sure, but retards just the same.

I did see one episode that went kinda like this: They had a great idea for a bike, then they ran into some kind of problem, and that set them back, and the father kept yelling, but by some mircacle they got it done just before deadline. Kinda reminded me of that Gilligan's Island episode when they almost got off the island, but then Gilligan messed it up.

If they ever stopped yelling at each other it might be more interesting, and if they ever started building bikes that ran well instead of just looking good, that would be interesting too.

A friend of mine went to bike week in Daytona, Florida a couple of years ago and they were there signing all kinds of autographs through a fence. What a bunch of BLEEEPING BLEEPHOLES.

(My apologies to anyone who likes them...no hard feelings, i hope)

By the way, it's in the lower 60's again today, as soon as the Mrs. is done making lunch, we're out riding! Winterize THIS!!
 
I've seen about six or seven shows that I got from a hub I was on in Thailand. I liked the 911 bike with the fireplug for a carby. Have to agree with everyone else though that it's the same story over and over. I would rather see a program that got more into the technical side of things.
 
They are bike assemblers not builders. Guy here had one of their none SHOW bikes the ones they build everyday.

The welds sucked the cleaning up of those same welds sucked. The engine was already gone, with only about 500 miles on it. They use s**t engines in their everday bikes.

The ones on the show are mostly sent out and they just put them together.
 
Yeah folks, I agree to you all. Remember this Apache-bike and the probs in the caravan just before presenting; detaching a gear shaft with a flame cutter...uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :roll:

...btw: my DVD-player can read NTSC and is codefree, so if you can burn it on a disk we can PM for details about address, S&H etc. if you like 8) 'd be great..

seemed everything was prefab'&some Ugly ideas.....

My name is Jay and I live in Elgin Mn. Been riding bikes for nearly 40 years now. Here is my story

In 1985 I walked into my local Kaw dealer and sitting on the floor were 2 new models The Vulcan 700 and an Elim 900. I tried them on for fit and comfort etc. After much hemming and hawing I decided to go with the vulcan mainly cuz of the laidback riding style. (Had the dealer allowed a testride I may have made a different choice). I was riding and enjoying my vulcan for a few weeks until I pulled up behind a black elim. I have regretted my decision for over 20 years now, (may have been for the best choice at the time, as 20 years have taught me much) Anyhow I have been looking for about 5 years for the "right" one, a few have gotten away because of my indecision. Last week I was getting ready to go to Des Moines Ia to look at an elim, when I called for directions the owner told me that he had just sold it, Oh well again, I called an owner in the twin cities to ask directions for that bike, SOLD AGAIN!!!! Just for Sh*ts and giggles I looked on ebay again, Usually what I saw on there was stuff too far away or two expensive to consider,,, Well low and behold there was an elim there "BONE STOCK" with 11k miles and a history to match the condition of the bike. After talking to the 2nd owner for nearly an hour I decided this was "my" bike, I proceeded to get teh Buy it now price lowered and went to pick it up the next day. I have no buyers remorse with this creampuff, every year it has gone to the kaw dealer with the words "do what needs to be done". Well gents I am in love again. My only plans are to clean up the throttle response.

My story.... I am 44 years old with a wife of 20 years and a lovely 17 year old daughter. I have built, tuned, and raced nearly every motorized vehicle under the sun since birth. My daughter currently has a state roadrace championship and a midwest regional Ice roadrace championship in kart racing, we are exploring the national scene and are going to make a run at a national championship next year. Lofty goals, but hey everyone has to have a dream and a short term goal. I hope that my input will help where necessary and i hope to learn much myself. My only other obsession is combat firearms.

I can' think of where Elgin is, I know MN pretty well since I called it home for almost 40 years, I grew up around Hector/Hutchinson then moved to Fairmont for 20 some yrs.

I am sure you will be able to clean up the throttle response by advancing the ignition timing and maybe a little carb tweaking !

Moab, not an issue love to get together sometime. Just getting back into the street scene, my other bike is a yami xt600 on/off road. You by chance didn't have an elim on craigslist did you?
Got a hondamatic if anyone is interested? Going to look at a hondw elsinore tomorow or weds.

i know how you feel about regretting ! i sold my first zl900 about 7 seven years ago, because of exwife, & I kicked myself in the ass for those 7 years, & found my zl900 i own now, back in feb. of this year. not in showroom condition, but coming around slowly. thanks to zlmark, & wuputt for their help, she is now running like new again ! CHRIS
