zl's vs furry creatures

I was just wondering if anyone had a good story about hitting a animal, while riding. I work nights and ride when the weather is decent(above 40 deg). So I have to watch out for deer and other varmits. One night last summer, I crested a hill at 45 mph and out of the darkness scurried a possum. Possum are not native to our area, but some ******* brought some in and let them go. Now we have possums. Which means we have alot of roadkill, in the warm months. Anyway, this critter cleared my path, but turned and ran back into my lane. Nailed him with both tires. The bike felt like it was 3 feet off the ground(was probably more like 3 inches).That will wake you up! I stopped by in the morning and there he was, complete with my Bridgestone tracks across his backside. They dont call them Eliminators for nothin. A few months ago, Cycle World ran a bunch of letters from riders who had split deer in two. Anyone have a story to tell?
 
Well I've narrowly missed several critters but the only thing that has happened to me of any interest: I was ripping through some back roads around my town last year, just enjoying the ride and came 'round a corner and standing in the middle of the road was a freaking peacock. I veered left and ran over it's tail which was laying about 6 feet across the road ( he wasn't flared up). After running over it's tail I stopped and the silly thing just ran off. I can imagine what may have happened if he'd flared up on me.

Hey Ethen, that is one of the strangest stories I have ever heard. LOL I'll bet you freaked out when you saw that sucker in the road.

I've never had a furry encounter, but I have had a feathered one like Ethan. Was cruising down a country road doing about 60 or so and a cardnal flew out of a bush beside the road and clipped my right shoulder. It didn't really hurt because I was wearing my leathers, but it sure scared the hell out of me. LOL
 
Bird in the spokes

Back when I first started riding in the late sixtys I was on a CL175 Scrambler, (remember those?). When I had a dove fly into the front wheel. It is amazing how such a small bird can have SOOOO MUCH blood!! Both legs from my knees to my shoes were covered in blood, with lesser amounts on my chest, arms, and head. I have also thumped a few rabbits over the years on various bikes. I live in northern Michigan so deer or "Rats With Hooves" as I refer to them are my biggest concern. I've had a couple of close calls but I watch the shoulders and ditches closely. 8O
 
No KILLS So Far but a Couple of Close Encounters. Night Time in Indiana is Possum and Racoon, Early Morning Deer, I can Handle a Small Critter, But the "Corn Fed" Deer get Pretty Bulky in the Fall.Have Smaked a Few Small Birds, They HURT, Even with Leathers, Later Rocky :twisted:
 
Feathers vs Eliminator

I was headed to work last summer and I had 2 birds fly into my chest on the way, only about 1 mile apart, I had my helmet and my jacket on so I did not get hurt, but it scared the CRAP out of me, I was going about 60 or so, I did have to pick feathers off the front of my jacket.
 
Hey Rick, you gonna have the ZL ready by then? It's a long way out but I might ride with you. Holy crap, I just looked at a map. That's a long ride on the ZL. I have some inlaws in Spokane I could stop over at to break up the distance a bit but it would still be a long ride. I'll let you know.
 
Your in Everett, cool,,,, there will be a group heading out of Marysville I intend on hooking up with them, I have some inlaws in Sokane.
Yea the Eli will be road worthy by Jan 3 that is my target date, it may not be "pretty" but it will be road worthy.
 
Update: Moab and I are swapping pipes he wants my pipes and cones I want his stock exhaust.... so we gonna do some horse trading......there may even be some chrome covers comeing ?...... if so I think there will be some carbon fiber ones before the end of Jan/Feb....Rick gets the first set,.....lol
And noone told me how much of a ***** getting the carb to air-box rubbers are to put on!,,, never did get them on properly off to the shop let them do it
