Hello all. Just picked up a 1986 ZL600 for 500 bucks.

Runs, carb 3 is stuck gotta be cleaned or rebuilt am doing this weekend.

Went to BuyKawasakiUSA.COM ordered a manual and they sent me a ZX600 ninja service manual. Called and they said same engine.

I am looking for an original service manual for the 600 any help?

The only thing wrong is carbs need cleaned as I said, missing side covers but the previous owner was a body man and he custom made covers that look pretty good. And the Choke cable is broke but the choke lever is right on the side and easy to get to.

Other than that it needs a bath.

He sold it for 500.00 because he has 54 stitches on his kneecap from a dirtbike and he is leary now about riding and says he really does not have time.

Welcome to the board. As far as i know the two engines are the same. You can also go on buykawasaki.com and get the parts diagrams. Those have helped me with every vehicle i own that is kawasaki. For what i have read, not from experience, the carbs are hard to take off and get back on. So hopefully everything goes good for you. GOod luck
 
Hey Mike, Welcome to the Club, And a GREAT BUY on the 600. You have to Call Kawasaki Consumer Services[949-770-0400] To get the Suppliment, I Dont know the Part #.Check Ebay, Parts for the 600 Show up every now and Then If Your looking for Some Sidecovers, Later Rocky :twisted:
 
Take your part #s to ronayers.com and get them
for a lot less.
 
Thanks "tchfall15" I got all the diagrams already printed.

Thanks "TheELIMINUTTER" I called when they sent the Ninja Manual the guy said they no longer sell the supplement but he emailed me all the different specs. Not bad Customer service. On the Side cover issue I think I am gonna leave on the custom made ones they are flat stock and shaped to the frame and actually even on both sides. I may add some stripes or art or stencills but they look fine I will take some digitals and add to gallery next week.

So far as I said I will find out Saturday after work if the carbs need a good cleaning or new parts. Other than the gas overflow at idle out of #3 it runs and down the street it is fast. Idling it goes back to sputtering on #3 and starts to smoke a little. Tapping did not work nor did carb cleaner or octane boost in the gas.

So I thinks I will be pulling and cleaning carbs. And not taking chances am gonna give it an oil change and coolant change, and check all hoses and wires. The seat has no cracks which is a suprise. I am also gonna paint the front pipes black high temp they are starting to show nicks.

Glad to see another 86 600 out there. I have had mine for 11 years and have the factory service supplement for the ZL600. If I can be of any help feel free to PM me with any questions. Look forward to seeing pics, I have a few pics posted in the gallery of my 86 (Slightly modified). What state are you located in? I have an original test of the 86 ZL600 that is a good read, I can get it scanned if you are interested.

Went through this last spring when the Kreem that was in my tank started peeling off. I spent two weeks cleaning and etching B-4 Kreeming. Low and behold, it is doing it again! Damn! I started cleaning it again, fun! fun!
I think I will try the marine type this time, MachIV I believe told me that it was better. I hope it lasts more than a year this time!
 
I bet you are right Shlim1, P probably let it get too thick last time, I may give it another shot since I still have enough of it left.
SS that epoxy stuff looks promising too....

Hey Wuputt, Got some information that you may be interested in. There is a company in Greensburg, Pa that offers gas tank repair with rust and corrosion removal of the inside gunk.
