TOP SPEED KING?

So who's gone the fastest? The board has been dead the past few days so I decided to put the question out there. Me, maybe 65mph. That was the probably the day I got it. Been working on it ever since.

So who's fastest and the story behind it. Law breakers, Hell raisers or just running from the wife?
 
I've had mine just a shade under 140. Don't know exactly though because you know how these dial speedos are, would be nice to have a digital one.

The story behind it is 2 friends and myself were out riding, they were on crotch rockets (CBR 600 & 600 Ninja). The CBR was in the lead, then me, then the Ninja. We were on a parkway about 15 miles from my town and coming down a small hill into about a mile long straight stretch when the kid on the Ninja kicked it and went around me and the CBR. And of course we kicked it too. We ran a little ways down the stretch before letting up and when I looked down my needle was just below 140, so I am guessing I was doing about 138 or so.

I'm sure other guys have done much faster than that. This should be an interesting thread. :D
 
ALittle over 130 on a Dead Stock 1000, Havnt tried it since I went to the Mods, Holeshots, Dynas, Ign Adv, and Stage 3 Kit. 900 has a Little more on the Top than the 1000, I'll take the Low to Midrange :twisted: Fell off the Dyno at 98.1 HP at 100 mph????, Later Rocky :lol:
 
120 at the drag strip on a stock 1000 goin through the traps in 12.24 and easily at 120 before I shut down. Next year I'm hopen to see at least 140 and not getting arrested. Never tried the top end over 120 on the highway. Maybe next year.

Top Speeds

I've never tried any top speeds on my Eli. I've always viewed it as a stop light to stop light demon. I've hit some pretty high speeds on "rocket bikes" - 1996 Suzuki GSXR 1100, around 153: 1994 Kawasaki ZX9, around 147: 1985 Kawasaki ZL900, around 125. There's really no need for any kind of top speed anymore - highways are way too congested, cops are too plentiful, roads are not in good enough shape (too many potholes, bumps, and rough spots - at least around here in Indiana). Top speeds are very scary too. Once you break about 135 or 140, everything gets very smooth and actually quiet. It's also hard to tell how fast you are really going - the scare factor keeps you from taking your eyes off the road to look at guages or anything else. I think my top speed days are long gone - call it "old man syndrome", hahaha. I'll stick with the drag race speeds from now on - or at least try to - hahaha. Later.
 
I have hit about 130 on mine... Don't do too many top speed runs tho as either the roads are too congested as Jarney said, or the roads are empty enough to run 'em out but the chances of deer or other animals becoming a permanent part of the front wheel is too great. I hope to see the +100s on the dragstrip this year, but I'll probably limit my on road speeds to no more than 100 :)

On a newer highway (here they call em bipasses) I got my 900 a hair past 130. I stopped trying to see the speedo when she hit 130. She seemed just as smooth as she was doin 65. What surprised me was the way a turn that seems like its not even a turn at 65 IS a TURN at 130. Eli seemed like this was no problem, (but that was enough for me) Just wonder how much she had left???

You will have to let me know how the track goes. I am making my first trip for the season opening Test and Tune day this weekend. Hope I can get it all sorted out by then. I will probly be installing a stage 3 jet kit at the track this weekend on Friday night or Saturday morning. Ill let you know how it turns out.

My first ZL I got up to 135 on the highway once several years ago. I don't intend on doing it on the one I have now. Another ZL rider I know told me that he tucked his left hand and laid across the tank of his and buried the speedo when his '85 was all stock.
 
I can't see.

I know I've seen 130 sumpthin'.
But after that my eyes water so bad I can't see.
NOT GOOD.

These things have got great big balls yah know. A little taller tire is no problem for the 105+ hp to push.

The 190/80-15 gives me 13_? at 10,500rpm-ish.

I got scared thought cause I remembered that I'm stil running the original 20year old Dunlop in front of me.

i got a eli 400cc
so withe 5 geat in 8000 rpm i got 170km/h,
i test the speed withe a rover 45 when he hade 120 km/h i hade 100km/h
so my seepmeter lose 20 km/h,i will soon make a dyno to see my rear hp and speed until then......RIDE FREE RIDE FAST
 
~ TEMPTATION ~

After taking the time to do several slower runs first, I decided to play on this recently paved asphalt roadway, and here is my experience. Using a 110/90/18 tire on front, stock tire on the rear, and the sound of my ZL-900 winding out fast, I momentarily glanced down and saw both needles pointing straight up, the speedo registered somewhere between 120-130 mph, while the tach needle was showing 10,000 rpm, just before letting off. One thing I did notice, and had to do out of necessity, was to lean forward, while keeping the lower portion of my full-face helmet about an inch above the fuel tank, as I peered between the speedometer and the tachometer. I also discovered that gripping the engine guards with my knees became equally necessary. The wind pressure was quite threatening, regarding the overall stability without the use of a wind fairing. The amazing thing wasn’t the top speed of course, it was with the astonishing quickness of how effortlessly the bike was able to obtain this, and the short amount of distance needed to reach it. On the street, I believe you can startle most, and hold them off for at least 2, maybe 3-gears, and by then it’s usually over anyway. :mrgreen:

zoomzoom, that's great to hear. we gotta hook up for a ride. As far as the county roads in Indiana, I had a sweet Eli about 7 years ago, I was flying down Frances Slocum Trail not 1000 feet out of my driveway, and T-boned a deer. It came running out of the corn about 10 feet off the side of the road. I didn't even know what happened No skid marks just a dead deer and plenty of road rash I WAS REAL LUCKY! The worst thing was a near perfect Eli trashed. Don't get me wrong, I live to ride and if I can't give it hell then I don't need it. Be careful out there,

Ok time to for the anual happy thangsgiving thing, personaly I dont buy into it, the 4 day weekend is a bonus but having to spend time with people that I personaly dont care to spend time with irritates me, and why should I have to offset most the cost to feed them, ever do the math for one of these feast?, trust me DONT, you wont be happy about it. I will say that I can get my seat recoverd for nearly the same ammount and have a sammich from the buck menue. with enough left over for a 40oz "fat-tire",....... and now come the big Christamass........... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
