While for some reason I had some time to kill today.
. I built a home made carburetor work stand station. I know one member posted up about this because I had in my ZL notes on what expandable rubber freeze plug to buy. To build one it took me about 5 hours but most of that time was spent on a design & running to Lows/Advanced Auto Parts. For parts you will need 4 DORMAN rubber expansion freeze plugs part # 02601 price $3 each or an equivalent of O.D. of 31 mm expandable to 34 mm O.D. I used 1" PVC for the stand. See pics for what all the different PVC parts that you will need. I had several bolts to choose from ( pic #5) for the stay stud. I went with a 1/4 20 SS allen cap screw. I attached a inverted black button allen thump knob to the top of it. For the nut fastener I used a SS 1/4 20 wing nut. I drilled 3 different holes on the top side as to were the 2 90* elbows meet ( pic #6) but only one hole on the bottom. The 3 top holes was done at 90*, 20* & * -20*. The 20* is for taking the load off the floats when setting the 17 mm float height. You will also need an electrical box nut ( pic #4) for mounting the plate to the threaded PVC coupling. I fabricated a mounting plate from a street sign ( pic #2) that I found in the woods.
. I drilled 4 sets of 3 holes in the street sign side by side so that the freeze plugs can be slid right or left for different size carbs. I also bought 2 line levels ( pic #4) but I'm not sure if I will use them. You can rotate the plate 180* in order to remove the float bowls.
Total cost around $26. K&L makes a carb stand that cost between $70 & $130 depending on the Supplier. Here is one on E-bay for $76. http://www.ebay.com/itm/K-L-Carburetor-Service-Stand/332274367167?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649
