1. Guest,
We need good tech writers that are willing to help out here at ZL-OA. If you like taking photos of jobs as you perform the steps on your repairs, have historical ads/documents from old magazines, or any else you think belongs in the Technical Library than you might be able to help. Send a private message to Furchin, Mudrunner88, Chris, Jarney, Wuputt, or Markus56 and we can lead you in the right direction to get started.

Hi i have a zl400 1995 but on closer inspection i have noticed the frame number has ZL600 in the VIN would this once have been a 600cc or did they use 600 frames for 400cc bikes it is registered as a 398cc

Are you in the UK? This sometimes happens because the ZL400 was never officially important here, I will dig out my Log Book to see what it says on mine I know @ MOT Test Stations the ZL 400 regularly come up as ZL 600 on the data information! As far as I know the frames are identical, but then I only know about the ZL "A" series!

I think if the ZL 600 is on the VIN plate you may have a ZL 600 bike, check your engine number against also the information on your documents, You could have a ZL 600 that has had an engine swap!
My ZL 400 A Log Book says ZL400A 0040**; Engine number ZL400AE-0039**. Having said that just checked my VIN Number on my ZL600A & it has JKAZL416GA004*** on the Frame & it has ZL600AE0040** on the engine. I hope this helps!
