Clocks interchangable?

the only differance seems to be top speed ,have you checked the size of the el250 front wheel as if smaller or larger could effect ratio and alter speed output Sappy

Yeah, I checked that, front wheel is 18". I'm assuming the cable fitting would be standard square drive?

This EL250 clock has MPH & KMH on it and it goes to 120mph (196kmh)... My own clock is KMH only and goes to 180kmh, but the needle can (and does ) go beyond that point.

I will be bidding on it if someone can confirm they're the same. Its in the uk.

Did you clean and grease the speedo drive??

Yeah, last time i had the front end apart, I did that.

If I tap the tacho housing when I'm riding, the needle jumps all ove the place. What ever damper is inside in the mechanism, it apperas to have failed in mine. I didn't go about taking the tacho apart yet, rather not go there if possible.

The mechanism is securely bolted down within the housing and all that.

If you dont want the bucket bowl if yours is in good condition I would be interested if you want to get the price more reasonable, Sappy

I don't know if tach's are mechanically the same as speedo's, but I used to work in a speedo shop. There was a little cup attached to the needle, which was driven by a magnet attached to the drive socket. The magnets would eventually lose their power, and the needles would start to bounce, or indicate incorrectly. Sounds like your magnet is tired. . . .

Not sure you can even get replacement parts for it, even if you took it apart. I don't think there's anything internal repairable, but that may not be right.

Have You seen the post on spares, regarding a tacho on ebay at the moment also I think Texas ss was selling a set of gauges recently I was after the bowls but he wouldn't split them hope this helps Sappy

UPDATE: Yes, the EL250 clocks and housing are physically and mechanically the same as my ZL750. I bought that clock from eBay and fitted it this afternoon.
No more crazy jumping needle. The indicated speed is spot on.

The only downside is that I no longer have my red "80 kmh speed limit light" as found on grey japanese import ZL's. I'm goin to miss that handy light.

Result.
