How can I tell the 1987 ZL 1000 standard from the ZL1000 reduced effect? Please help

Pleasze help me. I am thinking about buying a 1987 ZL1000 and I need to know how I can distinguish between the 110 HP version and the one marketed as the reduced effect rated at 100 HP......Does anyone out there in Z land know how I can differentiate between the two.....Of course my preference would be the standard rated at 110 HP........Thanks for your input........."Theeliminator"

I've been around these bikes for many years and this is the first I've ever heard of this 'reduced effect ZL1000'...............I think it's a figment of your imagination or you've been miss-informed!

Re: How can I tell the 1987 ZL 1000 standard from the ZL1000 reduced effect? Please

i think it's between the 900 and 1000, because of the cc difference. only 1 engine option offered in each model. :detective:

The ZL1000 and the ZL1000 reduced effect may have the same engine but the reduced effect only has 100 hp while the standard ZL has 110 hp......... Many bikes were produced with more powerful engines when they first introduced them. The V65 Magna first production year 1983 was faster than the 84/85 models, same with the 79 CBX versus the 80/81 models......First year was faster.....I just need to know how to differentiate between the standard ZL 1000 and the reduced effect model and I can find anything on line that will help me to tell the difference between the two......DOES anyone in this forum know how to tell the difference??????? ZL was only manufactured for 1 year, 1987...........I can only suspect that the first models were rated at 110 then later in the production years Kawasaki, tempered the bike just a wee bit......Forum is open for discussion in case someone wants to volunteer information......Thanks

There is no such thing as a reduced effect model, period, somebody has been yankin' your chain. If there WAS such a thing, trust me, the information would be HERE!!!!

Enuff with this guy who dont wanna listen to the info he gets :pistols:........In other news...dosent look like we are going to get any drag strip time this year at the VMD.......SO now what?

I have plenty of time slips, a shelf full of trophies too! I don't need to talk SMACK!

There very possbly was a restricted model for Europe, as some countries do/did in fact have a 100 hp limit. I believe the limiting was done either with a throttle stop or smaller jetting. There likely would be no way to tell just looking at the bike, but "derestricting" shouldn't be too difficult.
