Odd Starting Issue

I'd check the resistance of the fan switch since it's the only thing that allows current to flow with the ignition switch off.

Wow, 7 years! That's pretty amazing. I know it's been posted before, but where might one procure one of the magical parts?

I'm going to go check that batt here in a few. So I might be buying a new one today if it went flat with the cable off of it. I've had good luck with the batts from Advance Auto and since I can pick one up and be back on the road in a half an hour, that's awfully tempting. Especially if I have a discount code.

Looks like I'm in the market for one. Mine was pretty dead again today. After 3 days with the cable disconnected. I've seen batteries behave like this before, but usually they are pretty weak when they charge up. This thing load tested like a champ with a fresh charge.

I have two of these BATTERY TENDER batteries. I got them from AMAZON the next day. I ordered the 300 and 360 cranking amp ones in the 1 st pic. I went up one size on cranking AMPs on two of my bikes. I also got the smart charger for both.

I would get a charger that has a temp sensor if you plan on leaving it connected forever. Otherwise, just charge it once a month for a day or two .5A and disconnect it. It's also a good idea to charge the battery before starting if you waited too long.

You need to use a lithium charger for lithium batteries they charge at a different rate. I don't remember all the details. The BATTERY TENDER Engineering Department is in Deland FL which is 15 minutes from my home. I went over their a few years ago to talk to an Engineer about lithium batteries. When I worked for G.E. Areospace they was one of our battery suppliers for our Navy Ship Contol Systems.

I'm sure the ones RJ posted are great, but wow, over a hundro a pop? Seems awfully high to me for a bike batt. Did a bit of research last night and the others recommended vary in CCA from 160 to 200. Oddly the one that seems highest in amps is also the cheapest:

As much as I'd like to upgrade the batt, the simplest and cheapest choice is another Advance Auto special. Fifty bucks and in stock. Of course if get a bad one I just have to drive back over there. Get a bad one shipped to me and who knows how long the bike will be sitting.

I get the original Yuasa for $35 and it lasts at least 8 years. It requires way more monitoring and charging than a LFP to make it last that long. It's also just as easy to ruin a LFP pretty fast thru neglect which is why some people should just get a stock battery.

Well actually I got 4 years so can't complain. Think 3x as long may be a bit much to hope for. Never heard of the Mighty Max, but is sure sounds good. Almost too good. Wonder why it's so cheap? Do you happen to know if this is the correct size for the 600? It's not been real easy for me to find the correct sizes of these gel cells for my bike. I need to make up my mind soon. The riding season here in the midwest will be petering out soon.

Four years on a lead acid battery is average. In FL it's lower because of the 9 months of temps being in the 90s. I don't own a ZL 600 so I couldn't tell you for sure which one fits. Most batteries for sell on the net has the dementions and the post locations. Measure yours and compare/match them up. I'd go up one size on the cracking AMPs.

Well crap, scratch that one off the list. As far as I can tell ALL Mighty Max are the same damned size. Same width anyhow. Too big for mine. Kind of makes me wonder why they make so many different models. Think I'm just going to go get another wet cell. Why? Convenience. Nothing more. It's a 10 min drive to pick it up and if it goes bad under warranty, another 10 min drive to take it back.
