Just an idea I was toying with for the 1000's that don't have the lower rear fender. Sort of a mini-duckbill - what do you think? I'm torn - it looks so-so, ok, but not great. Not sure if it looks better with or without it. Let me know what you think. Later.

Yea I don't know. Looks like it needs something. Maybe squared like the 900 duckbills lower section.

Yeah, I tried different shapes and the others didn't look as good. I'll post up some pics of the other shapes later. It would take some welding or something to get one looking like the 900 duckbill - I was going for quick and easy and lazy - hahaha. Later.

Here are a couple other shapes I tried. These were just rough cuts to see what it would look like. I agree still doesn't look quite right but at least it doesn't look like there's something missing this way. It would probably take a little more of a skilled metal worker than me to make something that looked like it came from the factory. I'll mess with it some more this winter. Later.

Ok, I can't get to the bike real well right now, but here are a couple more pics and info for R.J. Later.

This is how I got the bike - with a 900 duckbill butchered and put in place.

Here it is with no duckbill at all.

This is the one I made out of some light guage steel - it mounts using the tail light lens housing bolts.

Or maybe take a 86/87 600 duckbill? Cut it someplace on the red line.....

That's essentially what everyone does with the 900 duckbill - it destroys a perfectly good part, but doesn't mount up very well tp the 1000 - usually sags too much or sticks out too far - just doesn't look right on the 1000. Later.

Some just don't like that it is so big, others like me, have gotten bikes where the previous owner took it off and threw it away. I think it looks a little better without the one from the factory, but have yet to see a replacement that looks right also. Later.

So what's wrong with the stock 1000 rear fender again? I must have missed that post?
It's an ugly piece of cheap black plastic. I have been removing and/or modding them since my GPz days. It's the same reason they have been making fender eliminator kits since the early 90s.

Well, to each his own. I've never looked at a ZL1000 and thought to myself, "I sure hate that rear fender." As a matter of fact, I don't think I've really even noticed it, looks perfect to me. :headbang:
