1985 ZL900 Registry

Stock red 1985 vin number 0529 to add to the list ,Thanks Mr.3d

I have a black. 1985 ZL900. I'd say it's in fair, non stock condition.
I've added aftermarket mirrors and turn signals because it didn't have
Any when I bought it. It also has F1r pipes and I was told a re-jetted carburetor. It's also missing some other parts but it's rideable.

I have a ZL with vin 001919 that I am parting out, though I am expecting a title in the mail any day so you may see that vin again. Though it appears to have been repainted, it looks to have been originally a red bike.

Got two of them
first, Kawasaki green 4 in one D&D exhaust last four digits 0136.

my other one is purple and further original and for sale digits 1645

I own a 85 zl900 jetted with 1266 last four on the vin. Have owned the bike since june of 93.

I bought a new eliminator in 1985 Black , put on F1 mufflers and ran the snot out of it for a few years than sold it around 1988.

Last year I found another one not 5 miles from my house on craigslist.

It is red original paint, 4847 actual miles and I am the 3rd owner. Had the original back tire with dry rubber rot cracks between the treads , .

I have since put on new front Dunlop in the stock size and a new rear Michelin one size bigger in size.

The air filter box chrome covers were long gone, found a NOS pair and clear coated them before putting them on.

Later I was at the same site that had the chrome covers and talked myself into buying an extra NOS pair just to have as I plan on keeping this eliminator forever

Changed all the fluids , mobil-1 oil, dot5 in the brakes and clutch ,new kelvar brake pads and any hoses that needed it.

Fresh plugs ,K&N air filter ,adjusted the valves , polished all the aluminum etc

The last six of the vin are 502061100_1296.jpg100_1297.jpg

:hello: Nice find. Bike looks in excellent condition.

Thanks, it took a lot of little parts and a lot of cleaning an polishing, but to relive my fond memories of the one I bought new in 1985 it is well worth it:hello:

Welcome to the site - another Indiana member, cool. Later.

Hi. New here to this site. I just bought elimifreak's yellow 85 zl900 on Saturday in Oklahoma City. Real nice guy. I also own an 07 Hayabusa. My wife hates riding on the back of the busa, so I bought this instead of a goldwing, and told her it would be comfy to ride on. As soon as I get time I'll post some pics. Seems like a great forum. I can't wait to learn more about the bike.

:hello: Welcome to ZL-oa. He told us he was selling his bike. Our forum is full of technical imfo & members you are very knowledgeable on all aspects of the ZLs. You can register the last 4 digits of your vin on this thread. Again welcome to the site.

, dot5 in the brakes and clutch ,new kelvar brake pads

You have done well in the preliminary maintenance of your sled.....what i wanted to quote you on was the fact of getting that 30 year old rubber brake hoses off and getting SS.. They are great! the ZLStore is the place to get your stuff. I switched from 3 to 2 front brake lines.....Cleaned up and made quite and improvement over the rubber hoses. Good luck....there are SO many things that you can do with these bikes....take a look at my SIG...Good luck!
