I was on another forum for my truck and stumbled across all kinds of praise for this company's LED drop in replacement bulbs. I was wondering if anybody had any luck with them? I know they don't really match the color you'd associate with an older bike but supposedly they throw much more light, are brighter, plus they have that handy lifetime warranty. My main concern is fit really, with the fan and heatsink on the bottom.

Oh, and if anyone decides they want something from that site, use FISH15 to get 15% off.

I just bought an H4 LED capsule to test out in a motorcycle headlight. I was very impressed by the light output. Instant, painfully bright white light in my 40 degree garage, and both the housing and heat sink remained virtually ice cold. The only trouble I could see is the large heat sink protruding from the rear, and the ridiculous little cooling fan dying if it gets wet. It also has a small driver box, that might not be waterproof either.

I haven't even mounted it on a bike yet. I'm thinking that it won't cause problems with glare for other motorists. It'll be far superior to all those crap re-based H4 HIDs that the ricer kiddies and jacked-up truckkies love to blind me with.

These aren't single-element LEDs. Based on how it looks, I'd guess there are maybe 36 LEDs on each of the lighting element 'pads'. One array is for low-beam, both are turned on for high-beam. It works just like an H4 halogen bulb does.

I'll post some pics if anyone is interested. Here's the one I bought. They accepted a $45 offer BTW.

The heatsink being in the way is my main concern as well. But the little fan dying isn't as big of an issue. Even though it's is not built to be submerged, they still cover water damage in their lifetime warranty. Including the fan and heatsink. Plus in reading through the posts, there was apparently a demonstration where they ran the whole unit submerged in water and it didn't fail. Tried to find the link, but didn't look too hard.

I'm also interested in any pics you may have. What's the brand/specs etc?

Very interested! I almost got these for use in my ZL600 awhile ago, but decided to wait for more feedback.

Yeah, we're always looking for better lighting I think. I work nights and would like a little more light - my eyes aren't what they used to be at night as I get older and older. Later.

From this specific company at least, the Motorcycle version of the LED headlamp bulb Doesn't Have a Fan.
No need to worry about water, dirt, grime.

I might give it a shot and compare it to the one in my meanstreak. Right now the difference between the eliminator and meanstreak is night and day.

Meanstreak has good cutoff shines wider pattern, and has a nice halo like effect all around.

When spring hits I will order one of these and try it out.

Found the "submerging" video girls and boys. I guess they liked it so much they ended up putting on their site.

Reviving this thread to see if anyone ended up purchasing one.

I bought the large one to put in my truck, but I decided to go for an HID retrofit instead. Gave out great light while I had them though.

Has anyone seen the Daymaker for Harleys? Complete module so no messing with silly oversized units or worries about beam pattern. I bought a nice, cheap H1 bulb type replacement for my 454 years ago. It was a nicely designed heatsink with fan, not too big, but the impressive part was that it had a screw on reflector cone that worked with the led like the original housing could not (beam pattern can be compromised by bulb design not working with the reflector housing as a halogen bulb is designed for). I don't know if those are still available (try H4 Led on eBay) but I'm wondering if anyone has the Daymaker?

I can't answer your question directly but the problem with LED lights are is that of focal ability, although they are Super Bright and everyone can see you coming 4 miles, LED are notoriously much harder to focus, unlike filament bulbs and therefore need a good efficient well designed Reflector /projector unit, because they disperse the light, naturally rather than focus on a point of vision.

Yes, the save energy, but they are also a very "cold" light and some people do not like this about them either. As they develop they will probably get better and become cheaper and more effective! Weirdly insects are not really attracted to static LEDS as they are to filament bulb lights!

I have a Halogen 4 on my bike and an excellent reflector unit, I personally believe you cannot beat the "round type reflector for motorcycle use, fashions change, but to me the round type functions best and looks better than other shapes. So far have no complaints and it is only a 5 1/2 inch type, as fitted as standard and I am looking through a screen most of the time!

For conventional Filament bulbs, Phillips and Osram knock the spots off anything else in tests up to 30% brighter than some other bulbs tested, included Yamaha's own, Halford's bulbs came out very poorly! There are tests on YouTube and HID kits come out way better than conventional LED!

with some "Eye Candy" as you call it!

At the rear, people I know have used Tail light brake/light bulbs which are good when seen straight on but poor when seen from the side! They are bright but not as red as the filament type.

I seen many an old machine ruined with modern rubber and a too-modern headlight unit, must be a bit of a "purist" I reckon, I will improve if I have to but I try and keep a check on the aesthetics too.
