My clutch safety switch has been acting up. It is such a simple mechanism, one pin stays in contact wether switch is open or closed. Cleaned, checked for cracks lubed and still no work. I jumped the wires so the bike runs but it bothers me that I can't get it working. Maybe the contact nubs are warn down just enough or the spring is getting warn. It looks like it should work fine when I pull it apart. :banghead:

Anyone else have a switch they couldn't fix?

I guess I will order a new one.

I used to rebuild those switches but I'm not the cheap bastard I used to be.

"I'm not the cheap bastard I used to be."

Hey, I resemble that remark... LOL

The harness plugs into the switch. No pigtail on the switch.

:hello: I'll hunt through my 20 boxes of spare parts to look for the EL 250 kick stand switch and compare it to my ZL 10. Also I'll mount it to my 10s kick stand and check it for proper operation.

87kaw- You're talking about the switch that is activated by the clutch lever, right?

Yup, clutch lever, but I will look at the wiring diagram and test the kickstand switch as well to make sure I'm on the right track. They are in the same circuit. I might be blaming the wrong dog for my issues but when I jumper the harness at the clutch switch, it runs.

Similar problem, I replaced the neutral switch thinking that was my issue but here is my problem. Roll the bike out of the garage, put the bike in neutral, green light is on, put up the kick stand, make sure the off/run switch is on run ( I don't use this to turn the bike on and off, I use the key). I push the start button, nothing, pull the clutch lever in then push the button and it starts. But last time, I had to feather the clutch lever in and out to find a spot that allowed the engine to start. I took the clutch switch out, cleaned up the contacts, put dielectric grease on it but still had to feather the clutch lever to find a sweet spot for it to start. Like I said, replaced the neutral switch and have the green light, but don't want to replace a $35 part if I don't need too.

Did you take apart the clutch switch and clean the internal bits?

I took it apart, can clearly see that the nubs are worn down, just going to order a new one.

I don't get it. I unplug the switch and toss in a jumper and she runs albeit the kickstand can be down when I release the clutch. Kills the entire safety.
Plug it in and she dies releasing the clutch.
Can someone have a look at the where the yellow, black and red wires go for me front to back when plug is installed? Maybe I screwed that up.

I tested my kickstand switch and replaced the clutch switch.

Thumb is towards the rear of bike

Just what I needed. Thanks!
Base manual wiring diagram is clear as day, supplement is blurry and smaller print.

Works perfectly now, I'm going to have to fire the last person that fiddled with it! Oh wait ....Haha.
