I occasionally take long weekend trips and find after a while my hand starts to hurt from gripping the throttle. I think I’m borderline Carpal Tunnel. I’ve tried the Vista Cruise type throttle locks, and found they take some modification and constant fiddling for them to work right. And unless set up perfectly will affect throttle return. The Cramp Buster type things help, but after a while I developed a pressure point in my hand, so didn’t like it. Plus they are awkward to use in town.
The Go Cruise clamps around the throttle grip at the switch housing end. Once at cruising altitude, you push it forward with your index finger and it rests against the brake lever. Simple, brilliant idea. It takes a couple of tries to get it set where you want it, I think due to flex or slight twisting of the grip. I have sticky aftermarket grips, so that may vary. Once set, you can just rest your hand on the grip without applying pressure. You can remove your hand from the grip, but your speed may gradually decrease over time. Mine came with a silicone “friction band”. This was mentioned in the ad, but not in the instructions, must be new. It goes over the grip where the Go Cruise is installed. I think this helped hold speed when removing your hand from the grip, so I left it on. To reduce speed, you just roll the throttle forward to override the Go Cruise. It is totally unobtrusive in town.
It comes with the usual warnings – not for inexperienced riders, don’t use in heavy traffic, etc. I got mine from 2wheelride, inc. for $20 and shipping was free. I found other vendors with the same price, but $5 or so for shipping.
Overall I like this better than other devices I’ve tried. Still need to take a long trip to really test it, but so far I think it will really help. It’s not perfect, but worth $20 if you take long trips.
