Hard starting/ wont start when cold

Arcing tester

Salut.

In the base manual they talk about using and "arcing tester" to measure the arcing distance...made a quick search on google and nothing...

Anybody have suggestions? Brands/models? Where?

Are you talking about the arching tester for a coil? If so, what I did was called a couple of dealerships and ask if they had a way to test a coil. One did and tested mine for free. It basically hooks up the coil to a battery and then to a sparkplug and meter and checks the spark. Mine were good so that wasn't my problem.

Just rebuilt carbs. The bike starts with full choke for 2 sec. then dies out. wants to start but just doesnt seem to have enough fuel. I get it started with a small touch of ether and warm it up, the bike runs great, the throttle responce is great. seems like the chokes not working. once the engine is warm it will start with one quick touch of the starter button. any body have any ideas.

Sounds like you are running out of fuel. Try this with fuel tap in prime position, give it a few to fill up the bowls. Check tank vent, or try with cap open. Kinked fuel lines? Large vacuum leaks?

I have to use the choke for the first start on even the warmest of days, doesn't sound as sever as yours though.
zlmark, you gotta come north, we only get to ride a few months of the year.
