Hi guys I am new to this forum and had a few questions. I have a 1996 Kawasaki eliminator 600 and decided to take the stock air box out. I recently picked up a complete set of K&N air filters for my bike for 30 bucks! I put them on the bike and it dies at 4,000 rpm. I know that the carbs need to be rejeted. My question is what should I do as far as options? I was thinking about buying a stage three jet kit from dynojet. It comes with everything needed. I was wonder if anyone has had any experience with this. My other question too is what do I do with all of the vent lines such as the ones on the top of the valve cover and the one for the crankcase? If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!,
Paul

Do some searching on the site and you will probably find most of your answers. I'm not that familiar with the 600's but on the 900's a filter like the carb K&N's is used where the crankcase used to hook to the air box. As for all the other stuff, it gets removed and/or plugged/capped, etc - this is on the bigger zl's - not sure if this is the same thing that needs done on the 600's but I'm sure the info is on the site somewhere - just use the search function or someone will chime in soon I imagine who has done this with a 600. Dynojet seems to be the preferred kit when rejetting a bike so you are on the right track there. Later.

Thanks for the reply! I am looking around on the site right now. If anyone else has any input on how to do it please let me know.
Thanks,
Paul

Just as Jarney said, cap them off. The one on the crank case you should be able to find the correct size at any auto parts store. As to the one's on the valve covers, try a hardware store and look for plastic or rubber table legs caps, I think 3/4 inch. These will fit right on the small tube on top of the reed valve covers.

Okay thanks for the advice! From what I was reading on this forum a lot of people say not to drill out the slides on the carburetors when you get the stage 3 jet kit. what is your opinion on this? Any other advice?
Thanks,
Paul

Okay thank you for the advice. From what I have read and researched it can cause issues and doesn't give to much to gain. I will be ordering the kit tonight and I will keep you guys updated on the progress. I will see if I can order some block off plates for the top of the valve covers.

No need to find block off plates if you can live with this look......ZL600 Reed Vavle Cap 001.jpg these are the furniture caps I referred to earlier.

Oh okay I see what you mean now! I will definitely check out the hardware store for those. I just ordered the jet kit today so I will keep you guys posted. Thank you for the advice.

Also what would you guys recommend as far as exhaust for the bike. I can't find any pipes for this bike.
Thanks,
Paul

The only aftermarket pipes for the 600 were the Cobra F1's that I know of. If you want something else you'll probably have to fabricate it yourself.

Hey guys just to give you an up date the bike hauls balls now! look good too! I still need to sync the carbs and fine tune them a bit but so far so good. The only problems I had was that one of the filters popped off and got ran over...

Hi, You can alsow look fore exhaust to GPX600 as they have the same Engine (only smaller carbs) . Iam using BSM VAMPIRE 4-2-1 with good results.

I know this is an old thread, but I just finished installing Emgo filters on a '97 ZL600.
It's the strangest bike I've ever tuned carbs for. The needles are all shimmed up at least 1/4", but #3 is up nearly 3/8". Strangely, the main jets are now (from 1-4) 110, 114, 106 and 106.
I'm not going to pull the head off to try to figure out why this is, since it is working very well but...
Has anybody else experienced this? I'm tuning with plug chops and plug color.
I did drill the vacuum holes in the slides out as big as they will go without hogging out the holes because of limited side clearance, but the throttle response is still slow.

I'm about to start the process of bringing my '96 zl600 back to life. Thanks for the carb info. Does anyone have a link for exhaust options? I like the look of the cobra f1s, but can't find them. I always thought the stock exhaust was the ugly part of the bike. Cheers.

Cobra F1's will be hard to find as you stated. There is a Japanese company that makes a 4 into 1 that will fit the 600 but unless you can read Japanese it will be difficult to figure out. Don't have a web site right now but the name is Tsukigi racing. Do a search and see what you can find out.

I used pod filters and the sponge dislodged in one of them and got stuck in the carbs. I couldn't figure out why the throttle was stuck open until I took the carbs off and found the little bit of sponge. Took all the sponges out now.
