Here are a couple of pieces I bought to carry things on the bike.

Tool/Fork Bag. I can't find the exact one but this one is close. I've had mine on the bike for years. It's held up really well and is ideal for gloves, eyewear, a couple of tools, rags, phone, etc., without cluttering up the look of the bike or being bulky, etc.

I bought this one 3 or 4 years ago for longer trips, hauling stuff from the store, etc. Joe Rocket Sport Tail Bag. You can get a full size helmet in it. It has a zippered mesh inner pocket and a zippered outer pocket that holds a lot of stuff. It has a carrying handle, the bungees used to attach it to the bike use plastic hooks too. It fits pretty good on the rear pillion. I used it to go to Mid-Ohio and got some tools, first aid kit, tire repair kit, towels, rain gear, spare glasses, camera, and several other things in it with room to spare. Only downside is it's not waterproof. It comes with a rain cover but that's just extra stuff you gotta carry with it at all times. Also has a shoulder strap. It's help up just fine, no wear and tear so far.

Jarney...

So on the back of the ZL9 it stays put pretty well huh? I am very interested as I have no way of carrying anything at this point and wearing a backpack for long rides doesnt really appeal to me...Where did you get this and what was the cost?

Willy

Hey Willy,
There are 4 bungees attached to the bottom of the bag with plastic hooks - no scratches, plus a sort of fold out pad thing on bottom. I rode to Mid Ohio with it (70+mph and 200 miles or so each way I think) and it didn't seem to budge. There aren't many "hook points" on the ZL but the bungees fit pretty snug. You can hook to the Helmet holders for the back two and then to the upper shock bolts. I wrapped a bicycle chain (plastic coated) through the top handle and through the sissy bar just to make sure no one walked off with it while I was in a gas station and just in case it came loose - so it wouldn't fall completely off the bike. Didn't really need it though as it didn't move that I could tell. I've also seen replacement shock nuts that are special made as hook points - haven't had the chance to buy any or check into them though. I wear a back pack for short rides - to work - but that gets old and is hard to work together with a jacket.

As for where I got it and how much, I'll have to dig the reciept out and let you know. Later.

I've got a similar type bag, large enough to hold a full face helmet and it has two small zip off "pannier' type bags on either side, it's called the "Gearsack" Tailbag. It is mounted on the rear seat of a motorbike with short bungee cords and has never moved yet.

No website exists for the company (no real need to, as EVERY bike shop in Australia stocks "Gearsack" bags and racks and has done so for the last 20 years), so I can't post an image of it, but it is usually the first and best thing any Aussie rider can buy.

I like the one jarney posted and also the one prostreet posted..I guess I am looking for something where I could put one or two changes of clothes, my small bag with toothbrush, deodorant, etc, rain gear and a few tools...I also like the fork bag as it seems I am always finding myself out for a ride with my sunglass glasses and then part way home I am riding in the dark with sunglasses...Would be nice to keep a pair of sunglasses and night glasses on me at all times...The stuff has to be removable because my daily driving of it is not that far. I go to work at 3:30 am and 55-60 degrees in the dark damp air is cold, but on the way home (maybe 2 pm) putting the jacket and all that stuff on is a bit warm...Luckily my ride is only 25 minutes, so I can deal with the cold in the am and the heat in the afternoon...

To tell you the truth I still would like a nice small bag for the front for my wallet, cell phone & change. Problem is there isn't any room on the hndle bars. Does anyone have a different mount or suggestion? How about a tiny tank mount for under the filler cap?

Lately I have been stowing my wallet in the compartment under the seat..It fits in there pretty well...I usually wear jeans or shorts that have that little cargo pocket on the side..That is where I usually keep my phone..My phone is not a flip phone so there is really no clip that can be put on the phone to help secure it...That never was a problem but when I ride the bike, I always would feel like the phone could work its way up and out of my pocket...I would go along and check it every minute or so...never moved...Well a couple weeks ago I went out for a ride at night and when I left the place I was at I slid the phone in my pants and headed home...When I got home, phone was gone...I had to get a replacement...now I am paranoid...I have to have my phone on me because I have to stay accessable....if I wear my jacket, it is in an upper inside pocket and I put it on vibrate...

I thought about something up on the bars too....not sure

Here is a an image of a "Gearsack Tailbag" bag, the same type as I own. it has "D-rings" rivetted to the bottom of the bag and you attach it via the supplied 4 x short bungee cords / hooks.

This particular one is up for auction on eBay Aust. now. They normally retail for about $120.00AUD, they are made from denier nylon and are waterproof lined.

I bought an RJays "Quick Pack" tank bag just for that very purpose, Prostreet and WillyD,

Quick-Pack-Tank-Bag1-t1.jpg

http://www.rjays.com.au/home/products/luggage-platinum-quick-pack-tank-bag.html

The main compartment is just big enough inside for my wallet, plus my sunglasses and case, above that on the "lid" is a thin mesh covered compartment to put keys, etc and on the very top "flip over" cover is a pocket large enough for the cell phone or a mp3 player (the bit with the clear vinyl cover). All compartments are accessed by weather-proof zippers and press studs. The tank bag comes with a small "Shower Cap" type storm / rain cover and a clip on shoulder strap. It fits perfectly between the seat and the tank filler bit on my ZL1000, so it should fit just as well on a ZL900. It has rare earth magnets in it to stick to the tank, and has NEVER moved yet in the 18 months I've owned it and it doesn't get in the way when riding.

And at $39.99AUD you can't go wrong...

...if anyone is keen on buying a "Quick pack" tank bag, PM me and I'll buy one for you from my local shop (they have a couple in stock now) and I'll post it over.

Yeah, that's a cool bag for the back Prostreet, good size, hadn't seen one like that before. Willy, sorry, I haven't found the reciept yet, been working on my POS!!!! Later.

I bought a 2-pc deal on ebay...It has a large bottom bag and then a roll bag that can be mounted on top...The roll bag can be used seperately too...It is PVC and looks and feels like leather and is 100% waterproof...This should do a good job...When I get it, I am gonna figure out the mounting and/or strapping it down...Will let you know how it works out...

Here's the "full dress" ZL! LOL Saddle bags, tank bag, T-Bag and a roll bag.

Here are a couple pics of the roll bag I bought...made a trip to Indy and back monday (down) and tuesday (back up)...about 300 miles round trip....Secured the bag on the bike with 3 bungees...Under the rear seat, I just made a loop so the hooks came out the front..Then I ran from the grab bar up over the bag through the lower bungee hook and back up over the bag to the grab bar (X2) and the bag stayed put...easy on/off...Bag is leather look PVC and 100% waterproof...
