zl1000 starter problems

help my zl1000 wont start. iv'e had it in the shop for five months(don't ever tell someone to take there time) it makes a grinding noise and won't spin over. the guy at the shop said he thinks it's the sprag gear, someone else told me something about a chain. does anyone have any ideas what it could be? the guy at the shop said you have to pull the motor and split it to fix. to me pulling the motor don't add up. any help would be great

Sadly it does sound like the starter clutch (sprag gear) and sadly you do have to split the motor to fix it.

Sapphire Country Cruisers, Inverell Branch of the Ulysses Club Inc. New South Wales, Australia

The Ulysses Club, who's motto is "Grow Old Disgracefully", for those that don't know, is a over 40's motorcycle club with over 22,000 members, both internationally and of course here in Australia.

I put out the local branch's monthly newsletter and I'm also it's website's admin.

Our Ulysses Club Inc does have overseas branches, but none in the USA that I know of ..... yet. The page below says there are members all over the place, but no "sanctioned" branches in the US yet.
