G'Day all,

I'm seriously considering purchasing a camera mount to put on my bike, so I mount my digital camera on the bike to video my riding exploits, etc and I whilst "googling" the net for a suitable one I came across a website called "RAM Mounts" that specialise in all sorts of mounts for cameras, gps's or electronic roadmap type devices like Garmin, Magellan, Tomtom, etc.

This set up is $ 33.23USD or $49.00AUD (not including shipping).

I'm going to buy one when my pay shows up in my bank account later tonight then once I get it and after I mount it, maybe I'll post up a link up to a video, once it's up and running on the bike.

They've got mounts for heaps of other stuff, like drink holders etc.

I just had to let you all know.

I have sometimes, while riding, come up on a real nice view, and thought to myself, that would be an awesome pic. A camera mounted on my bike would be an easy way to get those shots. Thanks for the link. Trouble is, if I get the mount, then I will have to upgrade my camera. LOL.
 
My Tomtom Rider came with a RAM mount for it. I used it for the trip up to Scotland and it was rock steady. Easy to install and adjust as well. Only thing is, it won't go on my next bike, ZX-12, because it wraps round the handlebars, and there are none on the 12 :(

Ah well, I'll have to find another kind of mount for the 12.

Oh, if you film yourself breaking the law on the bike, don't do what some idiot over here did. Filmed it all (wheelies past traffic, speeding in residential area, etc) and stuck it on youtube but forgot to edit the video, so it showed him pulling into his road and up onto his driveway, with the house number in clear view. Needless to say, the police turned up a few hours later. Some people just never think.

I`ve got a twenty 20 cam and made my own mount
out of a broken mirror mount and some hardware from a windshield.
 
I have 2 different camera mounts. First one i got kept moving in the wind so I bought a cheapo "flexipod" mount , i think I got it in some wal mart some place. It is a tripod but the legs wrap around the handlebars... it does not move at all.

The next thing i found out is that video clips taken from the handlebars of a moving motorcycle get pretty boring to watch after a while!! I have quite a few.... Most interesting shots are actually when you are riding with your mates and they goof off knowing they are being filmed!! Driving through valleys and mountain scenes just dont really do justice with a digi cam. I spose if you had an expensive HiDef camera it might be a bit better...? Depends what you're into I guess...

I find it's just as well to have a point and click digi camera in a tank bag ready to grab and shoot...

I have a gps ram mount for my garmin nuvi. It is very good quality plastic and fittings. It does not move and is very well made. I'm sure you'll be very pleased with your camera mount Mick.

Hey adam,

I wouldn't post anything on youtube, it would take me about a year to upload it to the site...

On the Aust. website there are fittings to adapt the lower ball fitting to mount it via the mirror bolt (11mm hole)

I'm getting both additional fittings along with a longer arm (5.25in) just incase my original idea for placing it doesn't work...

yeah, thats "dude" (zl-oa member), but I live up near the Queensland border in New South Wales and he's in Western Victoria somewhere, he's something like 2,500kms or at least two solid days ride away from me.

a little bit far for an afternoon ride to say g'day...

Yeah, I'm the same, I usually travel with a 1.2mp sensor digital camera in the saddlebags or I have my cellphone / 1.3mp sensor camera, but they just don't have clear enough image resolution, so I just bought a Canon Powershot A580 with a 8.0mp sensor with video and sound and two 2gb SD cards to go in it and suddenly the sky is the limit.

Planning, as soon as the mount get's here to take a little movie to show you all.
 
Yeah, I saw the other mounts on the US RAM site. I've only just made a deal for the ZX-12, picking it up next month, so I've not really looked into it much. I knew I would be able to find something somewhere.

Well, I got the RAM Mount bits and pieces for the motorcycle camera mount last week, after some delay (the Aust Post "Express Post" parcel (min 2 days delivery) got "lost" in transit for a couple of days!!!, jeez, they can't even look after one their own workers !!!) and fitted it all on the handlebars and it's great, couldn't be easier to fit and very position adjustable and rock solid.

I bought;

1 x Handlebar mount
1 x 5.25" Arm
1 x 3.0" Arm
1 x Camera Stud Base - 1/4" Ball Mount
1 x 90° Mirror Mount (11mm hole)
1 x 45° Handlebar Mount (9mm Hole)
1 x 1.5" Double Ball Adapter

I can leave the handlebar base mount permanently attached to the bike and add the various extention bars and device mounts as required.

Attached is a couple of images to show you all what it looks like fitted up;

thanks chris, yeah, it ended up costing me a bit more than I thought, but you've gotta spend the big money if you want the best…

I don't know if I'll be able to post up a video or not, might be a very long time uploading it especially with my shocking internet line speed, but tomorrow I'll set the camera up and go for a ride with my local club and see how it turns out.

I like having the camera handy as well but I usually have the camcorder mounted to the front when riding with friends or going somewhere unusual and the camera in a pocket. The mount pictured below is what I use for the camcorder. I just slip remote control for the camcorder into an outside pocket, flip open the LCD screen and run everything from the remote. When not in use I remove the top plate and leave it at home. I like that it's very stable and can be adapted for GPS, radar detector, etc. But it's not exactly sleek looking. I think I spent about $40 for it.

Stormy, let us know how stable that RAM mount is, I might look into it. One thing I will add for taking videos, use a remote mic into the helmet or jacket if you don't plan on dubbing music or something into the video. Wind noise is overwhelming at anything over about 50MPH. A fairing or screen would help as long as the camera doea not try and focus on the screen itself.

I took a video using the mount whilst on our clubs annual "toy run", it worked a treat, pretty stable even up to 120 kph, I can even switch the camera off and on play with the menu and use the zoom functions whilst riding, the video is way too large to upload on here, like about 34mB, but it lasts about 10 minutes, it includes footage of the street parade of about 120 bikes and trikes and road riding footage of some of the poker run.

A few riders on the run commented on it after seeing the camera mounted behind the windscreen, so I think RAM mount is going to get a little extra business soon.

mick,put the video on cd and post it to me and i will upload your video for you (i have super quick broadband).i should not cost much to post it! we would all love to see it!
