Mower opinions?

Wouldn't motor oil wear off pretty quick? That's a good idea just for winter storage but I was thinking of something that might last - similar to paint but a little tougher - to keep moisture off the bottom of the deck even during mowing season. Maybe something that would make the grass not stick quite as bad to the bottom of the deck too. Thanks. Later.

Yeah, thought about the proprep too. Not sure how long it would last under the deck either though. Thanks.

I think if you treat it before storage each year you sgould be good to go, and it won't attack the factory paint thats already there

The bed liner stuff would make the grass stick to it.If it is any good it would not ware off much.I just clean mine out real good.I use a putty knife to scrape all of the grass off.Mine gets it packed in real good.I guess I shoudn't mow when the grass is damp. The type of mower you have, the metel in the deck is alot thicker than, say a ranch king.I wouldn't worry about it rusting out any time soon. You could get some plow paint, for the underside of the deck. Most farm supply stores carry it.It is more of a protectent, than a paint. It wares off pretty quick.

Jmac, ugh, I don't blame you for blowing up. Like with anything new, you try to be careful with it for at least a little while. Probably why my speeds and times for mowing aren't as fast as they could be so far.

Here ya go Kaw, not a great pic but.........

Dang Jarney that aint a mower thats an RV that mows! :clapping: Rofl

If your worried about it

clean it at end of each season and spray it with tractor impliment paint. that stuff is tuff.

Jarney, I don't blame you for wanting to protect that investment! Too many people take stuff for granted and just throw it in the corner somewhere! I know it won't help with the grass sticking but one of my jobs as a kid was to coat the farm equipment with grease! It made the plow bottoms, disks and shovels last a long time! Other farmers around us were replacing every few years and ours would last forever! We bought 5 gal buckets of general purpose grease for a few bucks back then. Tractor supply has it in 1 gal. pails. My Old Man would say "if its shiney, grease it!" I started that job when I was so small I didn't have to duck to get under the plow and my Dad had to put grease in a ice cream pail for me so I could carry it! My Mother would have a fit cuz I got more on me than on the plows!
Those were the days!
Thanks for the memories Jarney!:)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I may try the farm paint if I get a chance. Later.

If you have used the mower, and Im sure you have, the factory paint is probably allready gone in alot of areas under the deck. I would suggest a nice high gloss enamel spray on paint to seal and protect through the winter, and also due to the fine non porus finish grass should stick minimaly when you use it in the summer.

really, by far the most important thing is to clean away all remaining grass gunk before storage. that grass is primarily made up of humic and folvic acids, as is most green organic matter. this will definately be a problem if it is not properly cleaned. Decaying grass can rip into metal bigtime. the heavy guage steel deck is likely to be made of a good high quality steel, and this will minimize potential damages. However, keep it clean is truly the answer.

Ideally, the deck should be hosed out after every use.
