Ive polished lots and lots and lots of ZL parts. I have many posts up on the subject. my addiction began with some basic polishing paste in a tube and ultimately led me to buying lots supplies and equipment. after doing two zl's for myself I was offering it as a service to the membership for a while and did numerous bike for other guys but man I'll tell ya.... I had to give that one up... it can take a lot of time to get some of the parts I received to the point where I was satisfied. I believe that I have polished every possible part you can polish on a ZL 900 or ZL 1000. this would be a great winter project for someone with patients.
if you can be satisified with achieving the goal of very shiny but less than perfect you can get dramatic results reasonably quickly but beware of the microscope effect. This is when you start your polishing project you "think" you are ready to accept just cleaning up the parts real nice, after you begin polishing you clean up the grime and notice imperfections, scratches, pits, nicks etc... and you say "well since Im dong the job I should just get after that stuff too" and that is the begining of the end of the easy job. the closer to perfection your expectations become the greater the level of effort will be and it increases exponetially.
I will say that unpolished old ZL parts are down right filthy and polished parts bring a whole new level of shine to your ride. In my case my addiction went beyond polishing and eventually I chromed it all....just couldnt help my self I guess.... eliminators are addicting
