What an "inverted" idea.

Has anyone attempted or completed or researched,
what is required to retro-fit a complete frontend off of a mid ninties ZX,
to a ZL9.
I really like the look of it. As well the handling and braking capabilities would be awesome.
I see it done on on the Eliminator on some of the streetfighter sites, but there isn't usually any documentation.
Just a thought.

I know a lot of inverted fork upfits on ZL's have been from a GSXR-1100. I think alot of people use them because they may be a little longer than your usuall inverted forks setup. This may have to do with the old
GSXR " double cradle" style frame. I upfitted my Eli' with a set of ZX-11c forks wich work GREAT and make a huge difference in stiffness and handleing. They did however lower my front end a good bit and steepened my steering angle. Anyways, what does this have to do with your question I know,... I wouldn't emagien that ZX-9 forks would be all that shorter than my ZX-11's if at all. Have you ever concittered putting Meanstreak forks on? (inverted). As far as I can tell from cross referencing part numbers that the Meanstreak steering tube is very similar to that of the Eli' (beeing that everything except the motor is actually a mutated vulcan.) This all may be comming out of my "arss", but it may be worth checking into. AT least then you could upfit both the front and rear with the 17" meanstreak weel. ;)

Most uplifting!

I like the way you think Ice.
I believe that people also use the Gixxer front end because it is the same as the Zixxer's.

The Suzuki Maurauder and Meanstreak, carry so many identical parts it's rediculous.

I understand that Kawai and Suzi, have co-oped several models of bikes and wheelers.

I'm interested to know all the details of your ZX11 swap.
I know it's a pian in the ass but I would really appreciate details n pic.s if you got em.

Maybe I can send you some Lobster or Nova Scotian Beer in return. Or maybe a little Captain Morgan BLack Rum.

Or a Wal Mart Gift Card. :D

Thanks Ice.

I have a complete `02 ZRX 1200 frontend for sale.
It has 1,400 mi. on it.
I swapped a ZZR frontend onto it so I don`t need it.
$750 + delivery

Eh, don't worry about it...

You're right though about the Meanstreak and Marauder. The Marauder 1600 is a clone of the meanstreak except for the usuall fenders, paint and minor trim.
I Don't have any "good" current photos of the ZX-11 forks. I'll get some though and post them so you can see what I'm going to be talking about. I was origionally wanting to go with the inverted forks myself, untill I stumbled upon these with axle, tripple tree's and break callipors for $85. It turns out that the ZX-11c Front wheel is shaped in a way that I was able to gring it down alittle on the three spokes and give it the metal "edged" look of the origional to match the rear. (I'll have to put up photos so you can see.) Also, eventually I want the finnished product to look not so far off from stalk, a little "hot rodded" if you will. Anyways, I had a friend who is in the custom chopper business weld the existing ZL steering stem to the ZX' lower trees and bam! It bolted right up with no trouble. I did have to use a combination of the two head bolts to get it to fasten down though. The toughest part was the wate and anticipation to see if it was going to work. Oh, and the hunting down of a compatable speedo drive. My next two projects are a paint job and implanting a ZRX motor. The forks though made a HUGE diference! If you like to ride agressively and are ok with giving up the "stalkness" of your bike, I HIGHLY recomend the change.
I've also flirted with the idea of widenning the staik rear rim and swingarm to fit possabley a full 200 or 230 wide rear tire, but that's for another day and a ways away yet....

Take it easy!

IF you are realy interested, those that MACHIV have for sale would be a steel of a deal!! They're almost Identical to my ZX' forks except for a few minor differences. (I used to have a ZRX). ZRX's are fitted with 6-piston calipers were as my ZX-11's have 4-piston. Anyways, if you have any questions you can ask me, or MACHIV may know also. He seams to know a good bit about his bikes.

Hot Rod

I've had the Hot Rod desease since before I could drive.
All of my bicycles, dirt bikes, cars, trucks...
... everything I manage to customize in some fashion.

I swore that I wasn't going to "Hot Rod" the Eliminator, but hear I go, looking at swapping the front end, seat, body work.
I've got a 1995 GPZ1100 gas tank that I'm going to fit to the bike. 22.5 litres will get me where I'm going with only half as many stops. On it's own the tank looks great. I hope that mounted on the ZL9, it'll look just as sweet.
As well, I'll be able to put the original tank back on in minutes.
Swapping the whole front end is a little more permanant and will involve a bit more "soul searching".
But I'll keep that in mind, MACH. :D

No i have not, i do believe the venture riders have and liked them, thats where i came across them.
