Side stand switch problem - any ideas?

hmm yea I figured the switch was mounted on the switchgear, it's the wiring I was wondering about: as there's no spare wires on my bike, but your pic #3 clearly shows extra wires and a connector. I need to find out what's happened to these, and whether I can short some wires somewhere to bypass the clutch switch but still have the side stand safety feature work if I can find a clutch switch and its wiring to replace it.

So I'm studying the wiring diagram, and it's not making sense: at the bottom left, in the Left Handlebar Switch Connections box, the Starter Lockout Switch (which I assume is the clutch lever switch) seems to connect BK (black) with BK/R (black/red) when released, or BK/Y (black/yellow) when pulled in.

BUT, in the box above and right in the wiring that shows the Starter Lockout Switch, the common wire is Y/G (yellow/green) and the other two choices LG (light green) and BK/Y (black/yellow).

The question is, which wire is connected when the clutch lever is released? LG or BK/Y?

I believe the references to BK and BK/R are incorrect.

YG is the common contact.

In the "normal" position (lever out) YG connects to BK/Y

With lever pulled in YG connects to LG

The above is from the wiring diagram, I have not actually looked at the wire colors on the bike.

Yea, looking at page 18-24 of the supplement I found the wire colors shown better than on the boxes in the diagram. I have to assume some PO disabled the clutch lever switch, permanently grounding the YG to the LG so that having the side stand switch open makes no difference and it keeps running.

Proper Pain In The Arse! I need to find a new clutch switch (and its wiring as it's missing) as it won't pass inspection for registration here without it.

Is anyone able to tell me where the wiring for the clutch lever switch goes to on their bike? Does it go into the main loom that goes to the left switchgear, or does it go separately to the headlight bucket (or anywhere else)?

Thanks in advance

Ok, here are some pics. The wiring diagrams I was looking at only apply to the 900 - it has the yellow and or green wiring. The 1000 has different colored wires - look at page 19-7 - if you have a magnifying glass - I don't so I don't know if they changed the diagram on that page to match the 1000 or not. Hope this helps some. Later.

1000 wiring colors - black, black/red, black/yellow

The wiring goes into this loom - left side of the bike if sitting on it, under clutch lever

This loom goes around the front of the bike and behind this plastic piece on the right side of the bike (if you are sitting on the bike). From there I don't know where the wires might go.

Just my 2ct. - on Photobucket I uploaded the diags in big size; go there over my album 'it's all about ZL...'.Later.

Here's the one on page 19-7 for the 1000 a2. You can see where they changed the wiring color that is closest to the switch. So depending on where the previous owner did away with the wiring, you might be looking for yellow/green and light green wires or black and black/red wires if your 1000 is an a2. Later.
