2004 Eli

If the Z1000 is an updated version of an Eli they ruined it. Has anyone had any more thoughts about this? My version hasn't changed much. A tubular ALUMINUM frame about 1200 cc, four inches longer, two inches shorter seat height(for us shorter guys), I still vote for the chain drive, no fairings, and a wider 17 inch tire. What do you think that the sticker price would be? If any one from team green is looking at this think about it the Vmax is all that is left of the Musclebikes. Lets hear the other Ideas.

Well I agree with the tubular aluminum frame and 1200 motor however the seat height is just fine as it for us taller guys and any shorter we would look funny squatting at a red light :D

I'm still on the fence on the chain drive vs shaft. To keep the heart of the Eli you need to have it a shaftie but to have great HP potential you need the chain.

Other additions would be a USD fork system, 4 piston brakes, an enourmous 250 section width rear tire, oh and some little things like having the chrome sidecovers mounted to the frame vs the airbox so when the airbox goes away the sidecovers are still mounted like stock. Replace some of the plastic bits with real carbon fiber...

Other than that the eli is about as perfect as they come!

I am not familiar with the Z1000. But you guys have seen the Vulcan Dragger haven't you? It's got Eli written all over it.

Hey Ethan, No Airbox on my 1000, Just Four Big K&N Filters Behind the Chrome Covers???? Rick from NH made some Sweet Billet Brackets to mount the Covers Back after the Airbox Left for the Dynojet Stage 3. Check the Pics in the Gallery, YOU COULD NEVER TELL ITS NOT STOCK, Later Rocky.

OK Boss your addition sounds good. Maybe an adjustable height suspension. As for the drive the power is why I would opt for the chain drive. The rest of the mods you have suggested are right on brother.
Jimmy
No I have not seen the dragger but if it is a V twin it cannot even be close to an ELI. V twins are cool, BUT they do not have it ALL like the real ELI.

Well miniking don't speak so fast. Yes, it's a 2000cc VTwin. If you ever see any pics of it you will see what I mean about it having Eli written all over it. The tank looks like it came off an Eli, the passenger peg mounts off of a 900, looks like they used the 1000 bracket under the seat, the front end is raked like the Eli, they used a headlight with a speedo and tach above and to either side just like the Eli, rear fender off an Eli, and the seat looks amost exactly like an Eli's. And that is just what I have been able to pick out from some crappy pics. Whoever designed it was definately trying to bring back the Eli style.

I bet it still needs more power for the comparison. If it looks like and Eli and maybe sounds like and Eli, it still might not be an Eli. Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

Well Kawasaki is kinda inbetween on their design ideas.... Check these two out and combine them and you almost have the 2004 Real Deal Eliminator.

Jeez, the Zephyr 1100 is like a modern version of my '76 KZ 900 that I had. Wish I still had that in my stable. Completely stock with the exception of tires and battery. I have to say, there is something about looking at four pipes from behind a bike :P .

Had a 1976 KZ 900 dragbike, but I am glad to have updated my stable to the ZL1000. Better handling, braking, and accelleration. Loved the dragbike but glad to have the Eli instead.

Hey Guys, Dont Forget that any New 1000cc Bike is going to Run you Close to $10,000, Mabey MORE, I dont have that Kind of Money to Spend in ONE SHOT on a Bike. Some Mods on the ELIMINATORS will bring them up to and Beyond any New V Twin. Also dont FORGET there CLASSICS, You wont see them Whereever You Go, Would not Trade mine for ANYTHING, Later Rocky, PS Happy NEW YEAR!!!!

Right on brother! All the style, twice the power, and did not cost $10,000 dollars. Love mine to death. Like I would pay $10,000 dollars for a new bike with less style and less power. Give me a break.

New Eliminator

I wouldn't opt for an aluminum frame, steel is strong & if I wanted a sportbike I'd buy one. I'd like to see well crafted metal side covers. USD cartridge forks are a good way to keep up with suspension technology, that's why I put a Concours monoshock swingarm on my ZL 1000. I wouldn't mind having an electric speedo or vacuum blue flourescent instrumentation. I'd like to see filtered velocity stacks with those Vornado stainless vortex fins in them that you could use on either carb or EFI throttle bodies. Having said that, I'd like to see EFI on an Eliminator. I'd use a single-sided shaft drive swingarm that incorporates the rotor & brakes & just give the motor more horsies. Under-tail exhaust would be a neat trick too if done right.

I really like the styling of the 250v it has really nice lines but too small of a power plant. Maybe chromemoly steel instead of mild steel, just looking to shave off some weight as it would really make the power feel like it picked up with the same motor. The fuel injection would be really cool too. There are some really nice looking cruisers out there today, but I would like to see one with a larger displacement inline four cylinder engine.

Sometimes when I hit the starter on my 85 900, I hear clatter from the starter/alternator chain slapping the inside of the case, other times it's quiet. Can the chain stretch enough to jump on the sprocket? Sometimes it sounds like it does. I'm hopeing that I can just replace the chain and/or tensioner instead of the starter clutch. Anyone had this problem yet? Thanks for any help.

Ok, I've learned something here. Right after I put up this post about the starter racket, the problem got worse and about half of the time the starter would actually disengage. Now I was sure that my starter clutch was going, but I had the chain and tensioner so I replaced them (even though all looked good). Made no difference. I knew all along that this had come about right after I changed to synthetic (Amsoil motorcycle) oil so I went ahead and changed back to petroleum oil. Problem solved. The synthetic is great oil, the bike shifted smooth as silk, but that starter clutch sure didn't like it.

wow i had the same symptoms come to think about it. I was running 20/50 amsoil and switched to golden spectro 10/40 synthetic, much better now, shifting is improved too.

yes, i'm going through the same thing.i don't like being the 1 with bummer 411,it's your starter clutch assemby,it is a weak design against the mass torque the cylinders produce,ave.comp.201=205psi at 11.1comp..so anyhow time to split the cases in half...good luck in your future..peace'out :)

Cant hardly accept that it's the oil.....I have run Amsoil for over ten years now, fiddled around with different weights and all, but never had this problem...(yet).
