Tech doc discussion: Water Pump Seal/Bearing Replacement

Just found this on the zx forum. At least the seal is the same size so maybe the other parts are the same size too? Anybody a member of the zx forums that could ask around? This guy rides a 92 zx 11. Later.

Jarney, i am a member of the zx forums. do you still need me to ask around ? & if so, what exactly would you like me to ask ???? CHRIS

We need to know the id, od, and thickness of the mechanical seal he used to fix his water pump, and where he got it from. Need those measurements for both the head (metal part) and the seal (ceramic part). We'll then compare those measurements to our seal to see if it's the same size.

Thanks Chris.

Hey Jarney,

I just replaced my pump last month. My old one was leaking oil. I have no idea if it is a 1 or a 2 but you are welcome to it if it will help you out

Thanks Rkerg, I've got pump housings, I just need to source all the parts that go inside them.

Thanks Chris - what Kawboy said - measurements, and a source for the parts. It would be nice to know that these parts were used in pumps on other bikes - just a matter of comparing all this stuff to see which ones. The more sources we come up with the better. I'm going to try and make some phone calls or run to a couple of places today and see what I can come up with.

Later.

Called about 7 bearing shops today - all closed on weekends - !#$% . Try again Monday.

Kawboy, any luck with the KLR guy?

Later.

i posted up in the zx forums, now to see if someone from there can help with the info we need . CHRIS

Thanks Chris. Hopefully someone will chime in over there. Later.

Jarney,
Have you found a number for the mechanical seal yet? Talking about the easy pump

Not Yet - Both Mechanical seals are the same from the 2 pumps - The local shops that might carry that stuff are all closed on weekends. It will be hard for me to make it there during the work week - most close at 5pm or 5:30pm and are 20 - 50 miles away. Good excuse to leave work early one day next week - hahaha. I'll let you know if I find anything. Later.

Could have swore wuputt said they had 2 diferent mechanical seal sizes

Can someone show a pic of this "mechanical seal" with measurements? I'm sure I can get it.

Are those part #'s I see kawboy?

What a coincidence.......I think they are part numbers - just not for ours.

So I conned a currently unemployed relative in to running around for me to the bearing shops tomorrow to look for some of this stuff. Decided to clean the parts up a little in case they want to measure stuff and it turns out under all the dirt on one of the mechanical seals there were numbers sort of like above. I've searched and searched and have not found anything yet online - hopefully the guys at one of the bearing places can cross reference it or something. Anyway the seal said:

Pillar 0504

After searching the only thing I found out is that Pillar is made by Nippon. Hopefully this will help us out a little. Later.

I know I can get these, I just need to get into town to get to them. What about that big bearing that is on the shaft? The one pump with the c-clip uses 2 bearings. I can get all the parts for that one.

SD - The one with the big bearing - I don't see how that one can be put back together the way it is. So I'm trying to track down a different bearing that may work in that pump.

I sent an email to Nippon today to see if they can give me any info, sources or part numbers for the mechanical seals - just have to wait and see if they reply. Later.

I took a chance on a mechanical seal on ebay - it's too little, about 2/3 the size of ours.

We can rule out p/n's 49063-1051, 1054, 1056, 2056.
Fits KLR/KLX650, KLR250, 450/500cc streetbikes, various Mules and ATV's.

Oh, and the seal is for sale cheap :laughing7:
